Notes from the Journal

<<First Name>>,

Thanks for your interest in Human Powered Delray! We closed out 2014 with smiles, cheers, and laughter at the fabulous HPD Holiday Party (thanks Colony Hotel!) after our first full year of great progress promoting safe and viable human powered transportation in Delray Beach.

Momentum is building! We've made many new friends at HPD's hugely successful Bike2Market booth on Saturday mornings at the Delray GreenMarket. (Special thanks to Patrick Halliday for championing the cause and making the booth the happening place at the market! And to all the volunteers...)

HPD Leadership News: HPD Chair Bruce Bastian has decided to apply his talents serving our City as an elected official and has therefore resigned as Chair of HPD. While we are sorry to see him go, we wholeheartedly congratulate him on his desire to serve the community in a broader way. We all wish him well and thank him for his efforts in getting HPD successfully launched and underway.

We expect to make great strides in advancing our agenda in 2015 as we further enhance the quality of life for all in Delray Beach by getting more people walking and biking. Don't miss out. Get involved. Join the party. We do have fun, as we get things done!

Cheers, fair winds, and following seas,

Underway

  • Resurfacing Linton Boulevard as a "Complete Street" - HPD, together with SAFE, MPO, and City officials has been working with the Palm Beach County Engineer to convert Linton into a "complete street" during the current resurfacing project. While Linton may not appear to be a likely candidate for such a progressive step, HPD (together with Federal and State policy) believes all streets should be complete streets and should be put on a "diet" of narrower lanes and slower speeds.  City and County officials have responded positively... stay tuned for results!
  • HPD Vendor/Partner Campaign at Delray GreenMarket - Thanks to Ken Parker's leadership on the HPD Vendor/Partner initiative, over two dozen merchants at the Delray GreenMarket are now offering "fun incentives" to bicyclists who take advantage of the Human Powered Delray Free Bike Valet service. Riders simply show their bike valet claim ticket to participating merchants to get their offer. (Note: Merchant offers are decided entirely by the merchant and are not negotiable.)

On The Horizon

  • Wildlife Reserve Bike Ride - HPD is planning a bike ride in March through the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge jointly sponsored by Delray Beach Bike Club and Human Powered Delray. The ride will showcase one of the many appealing greenways that are readily available for biking and walking close by our urban areas. Stay tuned for more details over the next few weeks...
  • Every Saturday, 9am to 2pm - HPD "Bike2Market" Booth and Bike Corral at Delray GreenMarket. Don't miss this great opportunity to:
    • Buy fresh, local produce
    • Hear great live music
    • Meet and chat with other bicyclists and supporters in the community
    • Catch up with all the latest HPD events, initiatives, and activities
