President's Message

BuzzHello <<First Name>>!

We had a fantastic start to our 2010-2011 season with a round table discussion on Project Delivery Methods. Big thanks to Paiman Owtad for organizing the discussion, and Garry Brav, Richard Burton, Marc Kinseth, Mike Posey, & Jerry Rasmusen for offering their opinions and insight from their different perspectives. We had 38 people attend the meeting and received 28 evaluation forms, with a total point average of 91 out of 100. We really appreciate receiving the evaluation forms as it helps us select future topics and speakers. If you have any topic requests or suggestions please feel free to let me know - my email address is buzz@kwmech.com.

Our ASHRAE Tucson Chapter had a booth at the University of Arizona Career Fair Septebmer 21st and 22nd. We had the opportunity to talk with many engineering students about ASHRAE and are hoping to see a few more student members at our lunch meetings. We will be offering three $500 scholarships this year. If you have any questions about our student activities you can contact Charles Amerise at charles@hvactucson.com.

Our Golf Tournament this year will be held on Friday, April 29th at the El Conquistador Country Club. If you have any questions about the Golf Tournament you can contact Charlie Velasquez at charlie.velasquez@swgas.com. We are still in the planning/organizing stage for a Product Show, and will keep you posted on the details. If you have any questions about the Product Show you can contact Tom McGreal at tom.mcgreal@cas-sw.com.

Our meeting topic this month will be on Underfloor Air Distribution. To see the full list of upcoming lunch meeting topics, visit our website at www.ashraetucson.org/calendar.

Please note that we have made a couple changes for this season:

Meeting Dates: 2nd Thursday of each month

Lunch Prices: $25 for members, $30 for non-members
Sustaining Membership Price: $200 (only available for members)

I'm very much looking forward to seeing everyone at the October meeting!

Sustaining Membership

If you are a member of ASHRAE, to help with the chapter cash flow and offer members an additional inducement to attend, we urge you to participate in the Sustaining Membership Program. Your Sustaining Membership will allow us to plan effectively and make early commitments for meeting programs. A Sustaining Membership covers all 9 of the lunch meetings for the 2010-2011 season. Sustaining Membership is only offered to members of ASHRAE.

Please use the form below and send your payment as soon as you can. We have proven in the past that participation by the members in the Sustaining Membership Program pays off in higher quality programming, better attendance and greater participation, all of which are critical to the continued success of the Tucson Chapter.

ASHRAE Assists College Students with Scholarships

In order to reduce the financial strain on engineering students around the world, ASHRAE is awarding over $80,000 in scholarship money for the 2010-2011 school year. "ASHRAE acknowledges the need to be supportive of students and the development of a future generation of ASHRAE members continuing to 'advance the arts and sciences of HVAC&R'," Victor Goldschmidt, chair of the ASHRAE Scholarship Trustees, said. "At these times of a challenging economy and need for technical advances it is more important than ever to be involved in providing scholarships to worthy students, and through our chapters, having a presence with institutions with HVAC&R related programs."
