I don't know about you, but I couldn't be happier to say goodbye to 2014 and hello to 2015. 2014 was.... well.... the kind of year that leaves me speechless and just makes me pause, clench my jaw a bit, and shake my head "no." Maybe even an eye roll too. And a deep breath.
Don't get me wrong; it wasn't ALL bad, but it was an intense roller coaster, and when it was bad, yes it was bad. How was 2014 for you?
Or more importantly, focusing on the present and the future:
How is 2015 treating you so far?
What do you see for yourself this year?
What do you want for yourself this year?
People often talk about making resolutions for the new year. It seems to me that resolutions often get broken though. So instead, I suggest writing a list of goals, dreams, intentions, desires.
And then? Each week write out some action steps, steps that set you up for success.
For example, one of my intentions this year is to practice yoga an hour a day, 4-6 days a week, but I've been out of the habit of a regular practice for months! So week one of the new year, my action steps were to find a good 20-minute yoga routine and schedule it into my calendar for 3 days a week. Week 2, I increased to 4 days a week. And so on. And in February, I'll increase the length of the routine, incrementally.
I know it can be tempting, and sometimes even a good thing, to take huge steps or make extreme changes all at once. Believe me, this is how I've often operated. And sometimes I still do. But in general, it's wise to take small steps, baby steps, in the direction of your dreams.
Little by little. Brick by brick.
