It’s been a little while, but we’re kicking off regular Ferment Collaborate News for 2015, sharing what we’re working on, who's involved, events, activities and workshops we’re involved with as well as how you can be part of it all.
We have so much going on presently! We've just taken over new premises, sharing with Browning Street Studios in South Brisbane.
We're also setting off on the incorporation journey, looking to transform FC into a not-for-profit agency and streamline both our internal processes and the way we share what we do.

What is FC?
Ferment Collaborate is a consultancy with a difference. We’re made up of independent planners, artists, project managers, film makers, producers, performers, designers and more, all working collaboratively to create leading-practice, cross-sectoral, participatory responses to community need.

A Taste of Lanka is a fundraising event for the annual Venesa Matram Symposium held in Sri Lanka to support community workers to network, share skills, access training and strengthen their capacity to work with communities around Sri Lanka.

A free, public, multicultural, arts and cultural workshop program in Brisbane suburbs:
Art Bites 2015
ArtBites is an annual public workshop program offered by Brisbane City Council as part of its BrisAsia Festival program.
In 2013, Ferment Collaborate delivered its first ArtBites program, producing arts and cultural workshops facilitated by members of Brisbane’s Sri Lankan, Indian and Chinese communities in collaboration with the BCC Creative Communities team.
Brisbane producer and artist Laura Luck is working with Ferment Collaborate to produce this years ArtBites program for Brisbane City Council, with nearly 20 public workshops happening around Brisbane in January and February 2015.
Framed within the context of Eastern philosophy, ArtBites 2015 will showcase an array of skills in bodywork, cuisine and papercraft from Sri Lankan, Japanese, Chinese and Indian artists, cooks and practitioners.

Venesa Matram Symposium 2015
The Venesa Matram Symposium is a networking, skill building and collaboration supporting event for arts, cultural and community facilitators in Sri Lanka.
The annual event aims to create a space for dialogue, exchange and experience sharing that can support more connected and effective community building by creative practitioners. The Symposium encourages practitioners to learn new skills, share their own practice and discuss needs and approaches related to the communities they work with. Ferment Collaborate, an Australian-based community cultural development agency, produces the Symposium in collaboration with community agencies based in Sri Lanka.
We’re now preparing for our 3rd Symposium, this year being held in Negombo and hosted by local cultural organisation Janawaboda Kendraya. The event will take place from the 28 April to the 4 May this year.
The Taste of Lanka event described above is just one of our many fundraising activities, happening in Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne over the coming months. We’ll also be launching a crowdfunding campaign online and hosting creative workshops, music events and more.

Binbi Meta Healthy Dwellings Program:
Documenting Indigenous social change
The Binbi Meta Healthy Dwellings pilot project (BMHD pilot) is a primary health care initiative designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families living in the Rockhampton Local Government Area (LGA), Queensland. Auspiced by Bidgerdii Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporation (Bidgerdii), this pilot project focuses on the management of health, well-being and lifestyle changes and prevention of chronic disease within participating families, working with families in their own homes.
Delivered by Uncle Poy and Aunty Marcia Pensio, who originally designed and tested the program in various communities between Torres Strait and Rockhampton, Ferment Collaborate has been engaged to produce a documentary film showcasing the program and their work. Stay tuned as we work toward finishing the film in early 2015.

Public engagement and masterplanning: UQ St Lucia
The University of Queensland (UQ) is preparing a new master plan for its St Lucia Campus and associated properties. It will replace the St Lucia Site Development Plan 2006 which currently guides how the campus should develop.
Ferment Collaborate is working with Andrea Young Planning Consultants to deliver a public engagement program for communities surrounding and linked to the University of Queensland in St Lucia. The outcomes of this engagement will directly contribute to the development of the new Master Plan.
A draft Master Plan will be available for review in February and March 2015 as a starting point for discussion with the community. There will be a number of ways to be involved which we will promote through our website, a newsletter and a ‘letterbox drop’ to the neighbourhood.
What is the St Lucia Campus Master Plan?
The master plan is a document that describes a vision for the future of a place and aims to to provide guidance for a sustainable campus environment. The plan is used to guide growth and development to achieve that vision. When finalised, the Master Plan for the St Lucia Campus will also provide the framework for regulating the development of the physical environment (similar to the current St Lucia Site Development Plan 2006). It will apply to the main St Lucia Campus as well as UQ’s holdings in the Avalon Theatre, Hawken Drive and Long Pocket areas.
