Upcoming Events

I hope everyone has gotten off to a happy and healthy start this year.  We're braving the winter in Queens, NY and getting revved up for two New York City events followed by many more during the month of February in New England.

The winter has brought some awesome, new projects with it as well. I've started working on an illustration series called Fermentation Illustrated. Proceeds from my event with Barry of Barry's Tempeh, listed below, will support the continuation of this project.

My workshop titled Get Cultured! A Workshop on Starter Cultures in Fermentation will premier in Manhattan February 7th. This is an accessible course that was popular in The South last winter.

If you have friends in Western Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Vermont, let them know they can subscribe to our newsletter to receive notifications of upcoming events in February. I'll be teaching at the NOFA Vermont Winter Conference and doing a mini-tour on my way up.

Please note you are receiving this email because you are in or near the New York City area. If you'd like to be informed of events outside of NYC, please respond to this e-mail and let me know.

Look forward to seeing you soon!

Happy fermenting,
Tara

Join Barry Schwartz of Barry's Tempeh and Tara Whitsitt of Fermentation on Wheels for a tempeh making workshop followed by a vegan dinner that will feature an array of fermented foods. This event will be held at Brooklyn Commune in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn on Sunday, January 18th.

The workshop, Tempeh Demystified, will be from 5:30 to 7pm and will cover how to make tempeh. The cost is $25. Attendees will go home with a tempeh starter culture as well as illustrated tempeh making instructions, the first of an illustrated recipe series by Tara Whitsitt.

The dinner will begin at 7pm. The cost for the dinner is $25. This dinner will be vegan, feature fermented foods, and MYSTERY! Barry and Tara are looking forward to their first ever dinner collaboration - if we survive this, there will be more!

The cost to attend both events will be a discounted $40.

All proceeds for this event support the new book series Fermentation Illustrated.

RSVP and purchase tickets for this event here.
Tara Whitsitt of Fermentation on Wheels will present a workshop on starter cultures used with fermented foods and beverages. She will share and discuss from a collection of dairy kefir, water kefir (tibicos), sourdough, and kombucha. In this workshop, we will discuss ferments that require inoculation - their history, how to feed them, and the delicious and nourishing foods they create. Attendees are encouraged to bring starter cultures of their own to share and may also bring a jar to take a starter culture from the workshop home with them.

Starter cultures will be available from Tara for either trade (bring a culture you would like to exchange) or purchase ($10).

The cost for the course is $10. RSVP and purchase tickets here.

Please note the bus will not be present for this workshop.
