January Update –
Ring in the new year!

Hello all –

Happy New Year! Hope you had a great break, back in the mists of time… To kick off the year, we’re starting with a preview of our 2015 Prospectus. Have a look, and feel free to get in touch if you see something of particular interest – we welcome your input.

For another fresh start, Future London Leaders Round 9 got going on January 14th, with a new get-down-to-business launch format (see below). The same week, FLL Round 8 tested tough leadership situations, and Leaders Plus got the felt pens out with Urban Graphics and PTE for a clearer sense of how to communicate a project vision to different audiences – and to contractors.

On the home front, it’s farewell and thanks to Alex Bishop, returning to the Netherlands, and a huge thanks to Jennifer Johnson, who leaves us today to take up a Community Planner post at John Thompson & Partners. In her 2.5 years with Future of London, she's delivered some of our most notable reports and programmes, and helped get FoL where it is today. She will be missed, but we wish her all the best in her journey!

Alexei Schwab, who many of you will know from his work on membership, field trips and other programmes, will step into Jenn's role, and we're also about to confirm two new hires, so keep an eye out for their names on the website and in the next bulletin.

In closing, a warm welcome to new sponsor ING Media, who've signed on to help deliver an Inward Investment briefing in time for MIPIM. Keep an eye out for that!

Thanks all, and see you out there –

Programme Highlights

London 2050: Delivering Infill Development

Surface Tension
We're pleased to announce the publication of our second briefing paper on the London Infrastructure Plan 2050 – Delivering Infill Development. The paper expands on our 26th September senior roundtable, where practitioners discussed barriers to infill development, using infill to support placemaking, and how to address concerns from existing residents over impact. Download the paper here.

Delivering Estate Renewal: Joint briefing

Estate Renewal
Estate renewal is a hot topic: in addition to our own November 2014 conference, Urban Design London and New London Architecture also held recent events on the subject. The three organisations have come together to produce a briefing summarising their respective events and highlighting issues and approaches for boroughs and housing providers – available to download now.

Improving London's private rented sector

PRS
Thanks to grant support from Oak Foundation and Trust for London, we’re getting underway with a three-year research programme on London’s private rented sector. In 2015, we will look at the benefits and practicalities of landlord licensing schemes and borough lettings agencies, as well as using data gathered for our recent report to create an online information resource. Find out more on our website.

Future London Leaders: Round 9 launch

Future London Leaders
On 14th January, we launched Round 9 of our Future London Leaders programme. Candidates and mentors took part in a workshop on mentoring and leadership skills led by Urbancanda's Andrena Cumella and Miffa Salter, with Alumni rep Anna Bolsin on hand to answer questions. Visit our website for more information on the programme and current candidates and mentors.
