Faces of The Village

Douglas Carter, whose photographic memory and love of history has meant he has penned many books about the village of Boxted and contributed to the village history archives. Douglas writes everything longhand and then copies it with a typewriter that his grandmother gave him for his 12th birthday.  He has chosen not to engage with the digital age.

Apologies for the links that did not work last week in this subject.  Hopefully they are all correct this week.

Colchester Borough Council’s Local Plan
Issues and Options Consultation -
16 January 2015 - 27 February 2015

The new Local Plan is an important document which will determine the way forward for Colchester. It will provide the strategy for the growth of the Borough, setting out what development will take place and where, to 2032 and beyond. Once adopted, the new Local Plan will replace the Borough’s existing local planning policies.

The Plan will set out a vision for the area, establishing the long term aims and aspirations for the Borough going forward. The Plan will include policies and allocations that help to deliver these aims and aspirations.

For details of the consultation, including the Issues and Options Consultation Paper and a questionnaire, please visit the Issues and Options page of the website.  Paper copies of the consultation documents will be available at Colchester Library during normal opening hours.

Consultation drop-in sessions are being held at the times and locations set out below. Please do come along and chat to one of the Council’s Officers about your thoughts and ideas, or to ask any questions you may have about the future development of the Borough, the Local Plan or the consultation itself.

The consultation runs from Friday 16 January 2015 until 5pm Friday 27 February 2015.

All representations should be made using the online questionnaire, or emailed to planning.policy@colchester.gov.uk. Please note that all documents (other than maps and images) should be submitted in Word format, pdf submissions will not be accepted.

Boxted Parish Council has drawn up a suggested template for your reply to Colchester Borough Council

“ I note from the Colchester Borough Council Local Plan Issues and Options Consultation paper that options 3A and 3B provide for development North of the A 12 on land in or adjacent to the villages of Boxted and Langham (and therefore further encroaching upon the Dedham Vale AONB)

The residents of Boxted have recently been canvassed for their views in relation to their Neighbourhood Development Plan. There has been overwhelming support (94%) for the maintenance of a clear green boundary between Boxted and Colchester to maintain the village identity of Boxted.

I deplore the inclusion of Options 3A and 3B in the Issues and Options Consultation Paper and would request that these Options be removed from the plan.

ECC Highways were in the village last week cleaning gullies.   A white paint mark on them means they are working.  A red paint mark denotes a defect.  Some of these gullies have an 'overflow' pipe under the grille to a ditch.  Landowners please check the gullies near your property. If there is a red mark and a parallel ditch please investigate and if necessary clear that part of the ditch to allow the water to flow.

Douglas Carter has kept the weather records for many years now which are all part of the village history archive.  Although happy to carry on recording the daily rainfall Douglas would appreciate it if someone would come forward to document both wind force and daily temperatures.  If this is something you think you may be interested in please contact Douglas on 01206 272324 for more information.
