Scientists have surveyed coral diversity and fish diversity around Lizard Island 10 months after Cyclone Ita. There are encouraging signs of recovery.
Seeing the sea-level rise.  This 3D model is helping scientists predict how the sea-level rise will impact Lizard Island and the surrounding lagoon.
Paleo reefs show the remarkable resilience of coral over a geological time scale,  but also periods of hiatus.  When coral is lost, adaptation and recovery can be very slow in terms of human life spans. 
Mantis shrimps have vision beyond our imagination and punch at the speed of a rifle bullet.  They have inspired the development of medical imaging systems with biomedical applications. 
Seagrass is 35 times more efficient than rain forests in sequestering carbon.  A recently-published paper reports a worrying decrease in seagrass since 2007 and concludes that current management is inadequate.
