So Much More
There are a few times in our lives when God gives us insight into the impact we have made in someone’s life. These are precious moments, gifts from the Lord. Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to spend the weekend in Minneapolis so I could speak at a church. While I was there, I visited a couple families that I have not seen in a while. I was incredibly blessed by both families, and God also allowed me one of these precious moments.
The second family I met with is very special to me. They were my neighbors when I was student teaching in the Philippines five years ago. We experienced a lot together, especially since we went through Tropical Storm Ondoy together. We also went to church together every Sunday and fellowshipped together afterwards. They have two kids, the youngest of whom was in my 7th grade class. She and I spent a lot of time together, and we remembered many of these times during my visit.
As we were talking, worshiping through song, and eating together that weekend, my heart was so filled with joy at the friendship we had. Towards the end of our time together, as I was dreading having to say goodbye again, the daughter (who is now a senior) said to me, “Amanda, you’ll never know the impact that all those things you did made on my life. You touched my life in more ways than you’ll ever know.” Her words brought tears to my eyes and affirmation to my heart that I am doing what God wants. This is what my passion is – to get the privilege of discipling young men and women. I am going to get to pour my life into the lives of these middle school missionary kids. What a joy and a blessing! Will it be hard? Yes. But will it be worth it? Definitely!
Already, Not Yet
100%! Wow! Can you believe it?! God has brought in over 100% of my outgoing support, and I’ve only been on this journey for 7 months. I remember back in June when I talked to my coach about the amount of money I was going to need to raise for outgoing support. Though it was about what I expected, I was mentally checking off where I might be able to cut some corners to make sure my outgoing support wasn’t going to hold me back from getting to Faith next year. It turns out I was wrong! Not only did God bring in my support, He brought it in quickly and in abundance!
So what happens now? Well, I still need to have 100% of my monthly support before I can buy my plane tickets to return. I still am going to be speaking at churches and meeting with or calling individuals to share with them more about the Philippines and invite them to be a part of what God is doing. All monthly, quarterly, and annual commitments count towards this monthly support.
You may remember that I have said that all monthly support given before I leave goes towards my outgoing support. This is still true! Now that I am at 100%, any gifts that come in before I leave can be divided by 60 (for my first five year term) and be counted towards my monthly support! That means that every $2400 over my $37,192 will be 1% of my monthly support! Let me know if you’re interested in finding out more about how you can join my team, or click here to find out more information on giving from my website! I look forward to seeing how God brings in this support and what He will teach me in the process!
