DOES FICTION NEED TO BECOME LESS ... FICTIONAL?

The house where the novel lives today had its foundation laid about 1,000 years ago by Lady Murasaki, with a little help from Homer and the ancient Babylonian scribes who punched The Epic of Gilgamesh into clay tablets. . . But no house stands forever, and, lately, the novel has started to tilt toward oblivion. That’s largely because it has been supplanted as the primary means of telling stories. VALENTINE’S DAY EVENT AND SIGNING

I appear on Valentine's Day, February 14, 5 to 6 p.m., for a free romance-packed event and book-signing at Denver’s independent bookstore/restaurant, BookBar. Two other local writers also writing about ardor will be on hand, too: Danica Favorite with a romance and Susu Vieira with a nonfiction book. BookBar is located at 4280 Tennyson Street in Denver, 720-443-2227, www.bookbardenver.com. My most recent novel, "Falling Like a Rock," covers the rocky road to relationships.
