Skatepark Consultation

Do you use or know anyone who uses Aireville Park skatepark? Please come to our consultation event on 16th February 2015 and help us to finalise the skatepark designs.

Following a successful fundraising campaign in which Craven Youth Council and Craven District Council raised £100,000 to build a new skatepark in Aireville Park, Craven District Council wants users of the Aireville Park skatepark to help them finalise the new skate park designs. The Council will be holding a public meeting at 4pm on Monday 16 February 2015 at the Council Offices, 1 Belle Vue Square, Skipton, BD23 1FJ.

After the designs have been agreed Craven District Council will work with contractors to begin the build of a new skatepark which is planned to be in place for May 2015.

Pump Track Consultation

Craven District Council and the Friends of Aireville Park are inviting the public to come and see a proposed Pump Track design for Aireville Park. The Council have appointed Back on Track a trail designer and construction company to deliver the project following a recent procurement exercise.
The 3 hour session will take place on Wednesday 4th February from 4pm to 7pm at the Council Offices at Belle Vue Square.  During the session there will be two short presentation by Back on Track and Council officers about the track design, construction, features and the planning application.  These will take place at 4.30 and 6.30pm and last about 15-20 minutes, alternatively interested members can drop in at other times during the evening to find out more.

The Craven Local Plan Consultation

The autumn consultation on the Craven Local Plan received an excellent response, a total of 864 individual comments were received covering a range of issues. A number of areas were identified that require further work to ensure that the final Local Plan fits better with communities needs and will stand up to an examination by the Planning Inspectorate.

A small number of sites received a significant number of objections which will now be renewed and a number of new sites have been suggested across the District which may offer better alternatives to those in the Draft Local Plan.

The most significant new site to be identified is Ashfield Farm in Cross Hills where the developer is proposing to build in the region of 220 houses but also fund a new bridge over the rail line.  There is considerable work required to understand the feasibility and viability of the proposal but there is an opportunity to address the traffic issues that affects the South Craven villages and also remove the key barrier to re-opening Cross Hills Station.

It is intended that most of the additional evidence will be collected by  Spring and once this is incorporated into the Local Plan a further consultation will take place.  Depending on the result of the consultation we will look to produce the final Local Plan in the Autumn of 2015.

Superfast North Yorkshire

During October, November and December 2014 fourteen cabinets serving over 5,400 premises were enabled with superfast broadband in the Craven District. This includes over 1,100 premises in Ingleton providing coverage to the village centre and employment areas adjacent to the A65. A launch event to publicise the new service will be held on Thursday 26th February 2015 in the village.

The final areas to be enabled as part of phase 1 including Long Preston, Airton, Kirkby Malham and Calton are due to go live by the end of March 2015.

Superfast North Yorkshire will shortly announce a second phase of the project to bring fibre broadband to a further 11,000 premises across North Yorkshire, some of which will be located in the Craven District.

Keeping warm and well together

Craven residents are being urged to make sure they stay warm, well and in good company this winter – by signing up to a new project. First4Contact, a service of the Carers’ Resource, has launched Innovation in Craven, Warm and Well Together to support vulnerable people and to help reduce the ‘health and wealth’ risks associated with winter weather, as well as combat isolation. The scheme invites residents who may be at risk of illness, fuel debt or social isolation to refer themselves for extra support.

People are asked to complete a brief checklist – online or a hardcopy if they don’t have access to the internet – and to tick the areas in which they are interested, or would like more information. Sessions to introduce people to using the internet, reminiscence workshops and creative activities for people with memory loss and dementia are also on offer.

The checklist can be found at www.first4contact.org/f4c-craven-innovation-fund/ or email first4contact@carersresource.org .

For hard copies of the form please contact Elaine Owen, Project Officer, at the Carers’ Resource on (01756) 700888.
