Coalition Focuses on West Coast Ports

"National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America is participating in a coalition formed to address the West Coast port labor and congestion issues which continue to threaten the flow of goods into and out of the U.S. In a recent meeting, members of the industry group expressed support for placing restrictions on demurrage charges for containers caught up in the backlogged ports. With little apparent progress in the talks between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and Pacific Maritime Association (PMA), discussion in the coalition turned to strategies for stepping up the pressure on the parties, including convening a Congressional hearing where legislators can grill the leaders of both sides and hear from U.S. shippers on the crippling impact of the work slowdown and infrastructure problems at West Coast ports."
