The ESL classes are held every Thursday night at 7pm at Rocky Mountain College. If you are interested in helping us advertise this ministry please contact missions@skyviewchurch.ca

Sound Help Remains an important need!
We are blessed to have Darryl serve faithfully every week; however, we now only have Darryl serving in the area of sound. Do you have an ear for music? Are you trainable in running a sound board? Can you commit to 1 or 2 weekends a month (Saturday 5-7:30pm; Sunday 8:15am-12pm)? If so, please talk to Darryl or Helen at worship@skyviewchurch.ca.

Church Board Update
The board held two meetings in January. The first occurred on Thursday, January 8 along with the Property Committee and Ironwood.  We surveyed some initial conceptual designs with Ironwood, many of which build upon the basic concepts/needs previously presented from our feasibility study with IBI. We are awaiting cost projections for the facility, due any day now, but initial indications appear very positive. At that point the board will coordinate a congregation-wide meeting to discern whether we wish to formally enter a partnership with Ironwood to provide more detailed drawings (approximately a 2 month process).

A more detailed update of this process and timing (etc.) are available under the “Updates” section at www.ourskyviewhome.ca. Thanks for your continued patience and we continue to covet your prayers in this process. For more information about Ironwood, see www.ironwood.ca.

The second meeting took place on Tuesday, January 20. Below are two things to note from this meeting.

1.  We are drawing to a close a process of clarifying roles and responsibilities among all Skyview staff. The purpose of this process is to ensure that each staff member is working in areas that align with their skills and expertise, that their roles complement each other’s responsibilities relative to Skyview’s five core values, and that staff roles help to meet core ministry needs and opportunities at Skyview. Once we complete this process we will provide an update on “who does what” so to speak.

2.We are working our way through the book, The Healthy Small Church, by Dennis Bickers (2005). Part of our recent discussion focused on Discipleship, and the need and opportunity at Skyview to more intentionally carve out adult-discipleship outlets. This topic will shape part of our conversations in February, particularly at the board and ministry leaders annual retreat at the end of February. Our goal is that this conversation would lead to strategic initiatives moving forward to assist with adult-based discipleship at Skyview.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the board.

Respectfully Submitted.

Joel Thiessen (2014-2015 Board Secretary)

Women's Ministry
The gift of 20 fingers

We live in a society of independence and somehow often feel inadequate when we fail to be able to do everything we desire to do on our own.  We hesitate to let on that we have any needs, or that we want help.  But in Ecclesiastes, the Bible says that two people is better than one.  They have a better return for their work, among other benefits.    But sometimes we have to get past our own pride or sense of unworthiness and realize that when we work in cooperation with others we can do more and do it better.

Most of us have ten fingers to do good for others.  Sometimes we hear about needs that we really are not able to meet on our own.  But perhaps, as a team with as little as one other person, we could help to solve problems, or connect people with a solution.  Rather than ruling out the possibilities based on our own limitations, let’s explore what God might be able to do if we were to work in cooperation.  And let’s use the gift of 20 fingers to make a difference in the lives of people around us.

Blessings,
Shirley Ewing

Men's Ministry
Coffee for Guys!
Join a group of men for coffee conversation, and Christian fellowship. Men’s coffee is a great opportunity to discuss current events and sports, share burdens, and plan activities like hikes, hockey or service events. Come on out and contribute to the lives of fellow Christian men and bring a friend.  This group meets every second Saturday morning at 9am at Fresh Blends in Varsity. 4625 Varsity Drive NW.  Our next meeting will be on February 14, 2015.
