WhazzupDATE #20 - 1/28/15
Welcome to The Waldow Weekly WhazzupDATE

Holy cats! It's been a few weeks since I've sent out one of these WhazzupDATES. My excuse? I don't have one! As it turns out, I don't really believe in excuses.

Moving on ...

Today's "Unrelated To Today's WhazzupDATE" (UTTW) is a clip of Aubrey Plaza talking to Seth Meyers about "retweeting the haters." Love it.

Okay. Ready to jump in?

Nudge.

I've never been short on ideas.

I think of new businesses, new ways to help the world, new ways to make money .. when I'm on a run, when I'm in the shower, when I'm in line at Starbucks, when I'm at a stoplight, when I'm NOT checking Facebook on my iPhone.

As I type this sentence, I'm the (proud?) owner of several dozen domains. Similar to Amazon, GoDaddy makes it ridiculously easy to buy stuff .. new websites in particular.

Is it a bad (good?) sign that I know the per year cost of a new domain ($13.17)?

Ideas. Ideas. Ideas.

Some of these ideas have turned into real websites and a few have made it into real businesses. However, most of them just sit there. Gathering virtual dust. Parked, if you will (#DomainSpeak).

Last week, I mentioned one such idea to my buddy Jason Zook. As his website is so aptly named, Jason ... well ... does stuff. One of the things (stuffs?) he does is send out a weekly "Action Army" email newsletter. Jason (or ZOOOOOOK as I call him) helps people "effectively execute on [your] ideas and turn INSPIRATION into ACTION."

So when we chatted last week, Jason asked me what idea I was sitting on that needed some "action."

I mentioned this idea that was brewing in my head the past few months to turn my podcast, Living Your Passion, into a book. The conversation went something like the following:

Me: Yeah, so I was thinking about turning my podcast into a book.
Jason: Cool. What is preventing you from doing it now? Like, right now? (read: what excuse are you telling yourself?).
Me: [long pause]. Well, uhhh, ummm, nothing?
Jason: Okay. Well, how about giving yourself 30 days to make it happen (read: set a deadline or it will never happen).
Me: Okay.
Jason: On top of that, you love content marketing and creating videos ... how about doing a daily blog/vlog where you give an "inside look" into the process - the good, the bad, the highs, the lows? (read: do what you are good at and love).
Me: Okay. Sounds cool.
Jason: Great. We'll talk next week and see where you are at. (I'm going to hold you accountable!).

While that was not verbatim, it was pretty close to how the conversation went. And on that accountable front, I'm talking with Jason later today.

Could I have launched this without a nudge from Jason? Of course. But, well, I've sat on this idea for months. It took a push, in this case, a very strong nudge, to take action.

Thanks to ZOOOOOOOK's very strong nudge, I launched From Podcast to Book yesterday. If all went as planned, you should have received an email about it earlier today.

Short version: I'm taking the next 30 days to turn my podcast into a book. A real book. A book you can buy on Amazon or Barnes & Noble or anywhere else books are sold.

Sometimes you just need a nudge. Or, as Jason and I agreed to, an Evander Holyfield-like "nudge."

Thanks Jason.

And to you, my dear WhazzupDATE reader, what do you need a nudge about? What idea are you sitting on that needs to get launched? I'm happy to help return the nudge. Just hit reply and let me know.

Questions, concerns, ideas, thoughts, feedback, whatever. I love it all. Just hit reply on this email and let me know. Truly, I love email.

Smile. Laugh. Dance.

Until next week ...
