That short week is so brutal and so good that you're left in constant recovery. We sit back and listen to the new Twerps record, hit a new coffee shop in Northbridge and launch our very own curated leg of Fringe World. It's one helluva a week so keep the party rollin'!

So we've received about 1000+ emails about Fringe World and there is a heap of stuff in there. We couldn't however shy away from a portion that we're helping to curate – Sunday Club.
Sunday Club is bringing Fringe World to East Victoria Park – an area we are peggin' as your go-to inner suburb with a bit of grit and an area on the cultural up. The Vic Park Collective, Town of Victoria Park and good ol' John Hughes are making it happen.

“Daphne”: that name always makes me think of two things - 'pretty white girls wearing lace on a riverbank', which is also a line from an Ermine Coat song; and an ex-love who always wanted to date someone of that name (i.e. Aurora wasn't good enough for him, if Aurora was my real name.) Too deep? Well, coffee's the best perk-up out of convoluted lacy melancholic pseudonymed nostalgia.
Adam and Sophie have just opened Daphne on William Street, brewing, expressing and or percolating cold drips and hot cups with the type of care a harpist would take carrying a tiny lamb across an iced lake.

There's a time and a place for an against-all-odds biopic, and the life of a famous physicist/cultural icon is – against all odds – a good place to start. In James Marsh's The Theory of Everything we learn more than probably ever thought to ask about iconoclast Stephen Hawking (funny! Wagner fan! involved in a thruple!), but moreso, it's the story of an extraordinary, complicated partnership.

Twerps ushered in a scene that helped kill a certain version of indie rock and now with quality follow-up Range Anxiety, it looks like they might unwittingly end up bookending what they started.

Maxine Beneba Clarke is an Australian poet, essayist and author from an Afro-Carribean background. With Foreign Soil she's produced a debut of collection of short fiction with a title so indicative of the experience it affords, it's kind of genius. It's full of persistent, moving stories about race, family, and adversity but they're stories you haven't heard before.

New Zealand-born songbird Marlon Williams is garnering a reputation for leaving audiences in a bit of a stupor, thanks to his uniquely sombre and nostalgic kind of country and folk. With the release of his new single 'Dark Child', and a national tour impending, we asked Marlon to pull together a few of his favourite melodies.

Pizza Hut introduced their 'stuffed crust pizza' in the mid nineties and for a solid decade they kept their stuffed crusts simple, lining the edge of their pizzas with extra cheese and folding the dough over it, forming a cheesy tube. It was a fun new way to eat pizza! Crust first! There was no reason to change anything. Then in 2006 weird commercials from Japan and Korea started showing up, advertising a hot dog stuffed crust and Pizza Huts all over the world realised the true potential of stuffed crust pizzas: to only appeal to the most cooked bong-lords who take pride in eating the dumbest bullshit they can think of.

If you don’t like chips, DO NOT read on. This article has nothing in it that is not chip related. It’s about chips on chips: the highbrow activity of putting chips in a pepper grinder in order to create chip dust to sprinkle on top of hot chips. AKA, chip-ception. AKA, obesity. AKA, something you should definitely do.

Why

Your life needs more chips
|
How Much
|
$2.50 for hot chips and $1-5 for a bag of potato chips. Just use your pepper grinder you have at home because you won't be needing pepper now that you have chips.

Presented as part of FRINGE WORLD, the night will see horsing around from a herd of local, national and international avant-garde performers. Ahead of his cabaret show at Connections, Scottee (UK) will offer explanations for his consistently bad behaviour (like that time he threw cake at Rhianna). Surreal showgirl Betty Grumble (Syd) will be revealing all on stage, joined by her spiritual sister Shaz a.k.a. Aaron Manhattan (Syd). Witness sultry scientist Dr Petra Dish (Melb) conduct research into the female anatomy and a catwalk-off from the gendermess that is Ginava (Per).
The raging stallions will be joined by some of Perth’s favourite disco jockeys; onboard entertainment from happy flier Willy Slade, the mysterious and exotic Maria Mendes going back-to-back with her pool boy Nicky Peroni, some time in lieu with Holiday Pete, an easy hook-up with Casual Connection, real talk from Roland The Realest, amylretto sours with Rex Monsoon and a pleasant surprise from Beecroft Sux!

The Doctopus boys have teamed up with Sailor Jerry's as part of Fringe World's Sunday Club out in East Victoria Park. The crew will be hosting three free events over a few Sunday arvos featuring fiver brews and rummies.
The line up is pretty tops and serves up a different vibe each week with the first being Triple Generation, made up of Doctopus's Jez's family. You'll also be able to catch Mugwump, Bipolar Bear, Hamish Rahn from Hamjam going solo and ALZABO, a very special band made up of members from Cease and Mink Mussel Creek.

There is no doubt about it that Jack Doepel is one of Perth's most talented musicians serving up delicate slices of jazz to some of Perth's best venues and wailing in bands like Eleventeen Eston & The Conversation, Mei Saraswati's Band and Bastian's Happy Flight. Now Jack's been recruited by The Precinct in East Victoria Park for two very special nights of sun setting music infused eats.
The Precinct recently opened their sister restaurant No Mafia in Northbridge but the team haven't lost focus on their first baby with The Precinct's head chef putting together a very special summer set menu. For all our Eat/Drink readers that skip our calendar guide – this one if for you – take the punt and get your culture and your designer food under one ticket.

If you've ever been served up some char kway teow in Mount Lawley it was probably served to you at some point by Stephen Bellair, Hamish Rahn, James Ireland or Jack Doepel – if not all of them. Take that as you will, these musos used to pay the bills waiting tables and now the crew have come together to lay down a mixtape of new rap, something that will hit the net shortly.
Support on the night will come from W.A.S.T.E.D which is made up of Laura and Katie from Kučka and DJ Craig Hollywood. Keeping the sounds large in between sets will be party makers Dan Dalton and Cam Scott on the decks. Either way you look at it Mojos is getting loose on the weekend.

Shredder of Shit Narnia aka Sam Atkin has been working on some solo stuff, not quite the same essence - more your Tim Hecker vibing sounds. The house gig will be staying true to the DIY core with limited CD-R's of the LP available.
Huge support will be playing on the night from local crew Rabbit Island, Xanthea, Mitchell Freeway and Ermine Coat. The release also marks another drop from label Workplace Safety.

Georgia Perry Pins
by Claire Finneran
Georgia Perry is a (now) Melbourne-based independent designer and illustrator. Not content with just creating amazing visuals and concepts for the likes of ASOS, Sportsgirl and an insane amount of other recognisable brands and organisations, she also sells incredible wares through a technicolour online store. Her range of silk scarves and prints are reminiscent of the golden age of rainbow-hued psychedelia and cartoon-inspired typography with a simple, graphic punch. We’ve gushed about her 2015 calendar and greeting cards, and a notable mention must be made of this striking Kimye homage.
Georgia has released a range of funny and cute pins, emblems to adorn the savviest of lapels. The range includes Oprah’s grinning mug, a semi-peeled banana, a can of sardines, a hand with fingers crossed, a comic blast and a minimal cube-stack. The pins are little wearable one-liners or perfect as a sparkling cluster of random. We have a set of two pins to giveaway. To enter, answer the following question:
This Week's Question |
What is the name of Oprah’s best friend?
a) Whale
b) Lisa
c) Fran
d) Gail
Send your name and postal address to perth.win@thethousands.com.au with ‘Nice Pins ’ in the subject, and your answer in the body.
