Special Mission Project

Support FACETS with Item Donations

As our February Mission of the Month, we are focusing on FACETS, a Fairfax-based organization which was inspired originally by keeping people out of the cold – well we can certainly relate to that now, can't we? FACETS opens doors by helping parents, their children and individuals who suffer the effects of poverty – so often unnoticed – in Fairfax County. We meet their emergency shelter, food, and medical needs, help them gain safe, sustainable and permanent housing and work with them to end the cycle of poverty through educational, life skills and career counseling programs.

Following service on February 22, we will be stuffing Comfort Bags with items requested by FACETS which they hand out to children under their care in community housing and recreation centers.  These items include water bottles, crackers, animal crackers, fruit cups, small raisin boxes and small candy items.  We will have our children decorate the bags with stickers and encouraging notes as well.

Please see the Missions board in the Foyer to sign up for an item(s) and bring them in by Friday, February 20. We really appreciate your continued support for VBC missions!

Bible Study Returns

Join us on Wednesday Mornings

Looking for an opportunity during the week to connect with old friends and make new ones? Do you enjoy thoughtful discussion and interesting Bible study? Then join Pastor Austin for our weekly Bible study on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am in the choir room. Our conversations will focus on the Christian life and how we live out are calling to be disciples. Come for a time of prayer, study, fellowship and fun!

Valentines Dance

Join the Shepherd's Center Feb. 13

The Shepherd’s Center of Oakton-Vienna invites you to a Valentine Dance on Friday, February 13th from 3:00-5:00 pm at the Vienna Community Center (120 Cherry St., SE, Vienna).  A lasagna dinner catered by Marco Polo and dancing to the Tallwood Trio will make for an afternoon on fun. The cost for this event is $10.00 per person.  Please call the Shepherd’s Center at 703-281-0538 for information. The reservation deadline is February 9th.

Fair Trade Coffee

Equal Exchange Goods available Feb. 8

Head to the foyer after worship on Sunday, February 8 to purchase Fair Trade items. As usual, we will have an assortment of coffees, teas, chocolates, and various other goodies. This ministry is an important way in which VBC helps to ensure that farmers and workers around the world are justly compensated. If you have questions or wish to help with this ministry, please contact Irmgard Scherer or Hazel Brandenburg

Thank You

To our Worship Arrangements Ministry

Didn't you enjoy the flowers in the church last Sunday? We are fortunate to have two such dedicated and talented women, Jean Matthews and Donna Hall, to beautify our church every Sunday. You can help by donating just $60 to purchase flowers to honor a person or event or in memory of someone. Just put your name on the sign up sheet on the table outside the office by the date you wish flowers. Be sure to turn in the slip with your name and how you would like your announcement to appear, and don't forget the date of the Sunday you want your announcement to appear. Turn in your check made out to VBC with "Flowers" on the memo line. And be sure to tell Jean and Donna what you would like, they are happy to accommodate.

Thank You

For Supporting Our Living Nativity

Thank you to all the folks who participated in our 47th Living Nativity. We had so many nice compliments! I think it just gets better every year.  Special thanks to Beth Robatille and Jon Redden for allowing us to use their precious Orion as our Baby Jesus. He was adorable. Andy and Jodi Griffin did a spectacular job as Mary and Joseph! The Kings did a wonderful job, as usual. Thanks to Jackson Muse, Jim Wiley and Jim Hurdle for a great job. Thanks also to Chris Thomas, Greg Brotemarkle, and Diego Cobos for corralling the shepherds and to Danielle Cuppett and Lita Salgado for their portrayal of the Manger Angel and Lead Angel. Great job everyone!

Thanks to the City Gate Group for lending us so many beautiful little angels and shepherds!  We also have to thank all the people who work behind the scenes to make it all look so effortless, CJ Redden-Liotta, Turner Bridgforth, and John Muse to name a few. Andrea Harvey, and Jim and Valla Hurdle are so very loyal every year, coming in and doing ironing, dressing and any other things that need to be done! I so appreciate them. We have lots of Moms and other family members who come and help dress the children; thank you, we couldn't do it without you. It was a wonderful production, so lets do it again next year. This has been our gift to the community for many years, and one of the best ways I know to tell the story of our Lord Jesus! #AMAVBC JAN/FEB

Special Youth Bible Study Series

Pastor Austin and his wife Alison will be guest teaching in Youth Sunday School from January 18-February 15. But, instead of the two ministers choosing the topics, the students will decide! Students can email questions for this “ask me anything” series or submit them via Instagram or Twitter by using #AMAvbc. We look forward to some good questions and great conversations! See you then!
