In 2014, EFN worked hard to meet the emergency food needs of our community by distributing 15.3 million pounds of food to our partner food programs, an increase of 17% since 2011. Unfortunately, the demand for food still continues to grow. Last year, there were 1,421,417 total client visits to our 63 partner food programs, an increase of 11% since 2011.
Even though the demand for food continues to rise, EFN is keeping pace with this growing need thanks to our amazing donors, volunteers, and partner food programs. It is because of you that EFN is able to distribute $12 worth of food for every $1 we receive.
So, we would like to say THANK YOU for your partnership, on-going support and generosity as we work together to make sure that no person goes hungry.

A Note from Mother Earth Farm
While this winter has been a mix of freezing temperatures and unseasonably warm weather, Mother Earth Farm's new hoop house is protecting a beautiful crop of spinach through it all. Good thing, as in our recent conversations with a variety of folks at Pierce County food banks we confirmed a strong desire for fresh produce, and more of it. January has passed, and we're still growing strong!

MLK Day: A Day of Service
On January 19, millions of Americans joined together for a day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In Tacoma, more than 2,000 people attended the city's 27th annual MLK Day event which featured powerful presentations by Mayor Marilyn Strickland, Senator Patty Murray, Representatives Denny Heck and Derek Kilmer, Pierce County Executive Pat McCarthy, and keynote speaker Melanie Cunningham. A Food and Fund Drive held at the event and at the Washington State Historical Museum brought in 1,171 pounds of food and $100 in donations.
At EFN, more than 20 community and University of Puget Sound volunteers participated in the Repack Project preparing 7,500 pounds of oats for distribution to food banks.

Volunteer of the Month
Interstate Distributor Co.
What better way to wrap up a week of finance meetings than with a friendly competition to battle hunger! On a Friday afternoon this past January, Interstate Distributor Co split their leadership team in to two groups. While one group was at our Repack Project, the other group was going door-to-door seeking food drive donations, after a designated time they switched roles.
At the end of the day (and after much friendly bantering),the two groups repacked a total of 57,450 apples and collected 1,288 pounds of food!
Thank you Interstate Distributor Co for helping us in the fight against hunger!
