WEEK OF FEBRUARY 1ST - 7TH
Hello everyone!
5 Things You Need to Know This Week
1. Are you ready for some football? Superbowl Party
On February 1st, the Clubhouse will have a Superbowl Party at the North Central Location. The party is from 5 PM - 9 PM. and the game will start at 5:30 PM. Refreshments will be served at no cost.
2. Outside Grounds Super Clean:
Our North Central outside grounds needs a super clean. Will you help us get it done? On Saturday, February 7th, we will be welcoming a group from Rockhills Church who will help us with our ground beautification. In addition, Brandon, one of our PT Generalists, will be planting new plants in our garden that we received from CSC Region 20, a district education support group. Stop by the Clubhouse to either clean or plant some new plants in our garden!
3. Are you looking for work? Open positions with local restaurants:
Have you had an employment consultation? We have Transitional Employment openings at Panchito's Mexican Restaurant busing tables. The positions start the 2nd week of March. We also have 2 positions at Augie's Alamo City BBQ that are we are hoping to fill soon. The work at Augie's entails basic food preparation and dish washing; one day shift and one night shift. The first position starts the second week of March and the other starting the second week of April.
4. Food Pantry at the Clubhouse Now Open:
The San Antonio Clubhouse at the North Central location, as an official partner of the San Antonio Food Bank, has just opened a new Food Pantry. Our fully operational Food Pantry is open Monday through Saturday and is available to our members as well as the local community. If you are in need, check with anyone in the Wellness Unit to see if you meet the income requirements. We are also looking for donations of dry goods and non-perishable items from the community. As always, the Clubhouse appreciates your support.
5. San Antonio Clubhouse's New Blog:
Do you have a talent for writing or editing, or just have a great story? The Clubhouse started a new blog featuring original work from members and staff. It's only a couple of weeks old, but we already have several stories to share. We're constantly updating our blog, and any submission is welcome. Reach out to Garrett in Community Connections, or e-mail him at garrett@saclubhouse.org with your idea for a story.
Notes from the House Meeting
House Meeting Agenda - 1/28/2015
Topic 1: Food Pantry training - The Wellness Unit (15 Min)
Dennise and Georgette trained everyone on how our Food Pantry operates, the criteria for receiving food, and reminded everyone to treat our patrons with respect and kindness.
Topic 2: Suggestion: Acquire a jukebox. 10 cents per song. –Carroll
The topic of purchasing a jukebox was thoroughly discussed. Some members felt that we should be allowed to bring our own CD's and choose which music to play. Others felt that it wouldn't be too big a burden to purchase a Jukebox. Ultimately everyone in attendance felt that a jukebox is too expensive, and that using Pandora is enough. The group mentioned that since we haven't had any problems with Pandora in the past, there isn't any reason to change to using a jukebox.
Topic 3: Suggestion: If someone volunteers for something, they can eat even if they do not have any money but they must volunteer for something or pay for lunch. –Christopher Pullin
The Clubhouse aims to treat everyone equally which includes charging each member for lunch. In addition, Clubhouse standards dictate that "...Members are not paid for any Clubhouse work, nor are there any artificial reward systems." Providing a lunch for volunteering at the Clubhouse would be an artificial reward for work completed.
Topic 4: Wedding at the Clubhouse- Ivan and Victoria (tabled)
