West End Seniors Community Planning Table
The next Planning Table meeting will be held on Friday, February 20th, 10:00AM-12:00PM at Gordon Neighbourhood House. Please note there is no meeting on February 27. Meetings are open to all and provide an opportunity to connect with your neighbours, community groups and organizations on topics of relevance to seniors.

Our Right to be Safe
Free Workshop for Seniors with Disabilities
Date: Wednesday March 4th, 2015
Time: TBA (3 hours during the day, lunch included)
Location: Gordon Neighbourhood House
In the workshop we will talk about:
- The kinds of violence and abuse seniors with disabilities and physical limitations are experiencing
- Learn what you can do to get help
- Share safety tips with other seniors
- Begin the process of developing a safety plan that will include:
- Establishing support circles in your community
Space is limited and registration is required. Lunch will be provided. Disability supports and transportation costs will be covered.

Coming in February!
Dementia Smart Awareness and Activities Workshops
Pomegranate Training is happy to offer a series of three 2 hour Dementia Smart workshops for family, care givers, friends and community members, professionals and volunteers working with people at all stages of the dementia journey.
This exciting new pilot program will raise awareness about Dementia and will provide participants with meaningful tools to communicate with loved ones, through participatory Dementia Smart Activities.
- What is Dementia?
- Signs and symptoms of Dementia
- Supporting and caring for a person with Dementia
- Understanding the Dementia journey and its difficulties
This 3 part workshop will be offered on Wednesdays at West End Seniors Network in February and again in March/April at Gordon Neighbourhood House.
Wednesday February 4, 11, 18 from 1:30- 3:30 at West End Seniors Network ( Barclay Manor)
Wednesday March 25, April 1, April 8, from 1:30-3:30, at Gordon Neighbourhood House

About the Trainer
Farzana has personal experience of caring for her father with dementia. She has over 20 years of health promotion and public health experience. Having moved to BC from the UK in 2013, she has set up Pomegranate Training (www.pomegranatetraining.com) to provide dementia training and education for communities and professionals.

Rainbow Soup Social
Gordon Neighbourhood House, the Health Initiative for Men, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and QMUNITY would like to invite our queer neighbours and their allies to join us for Rainbow Soup Social. The soup that is prepared will be made available, free of charge, at the Community Food Hub the following day (a new partnership between Gordon Neighbourhood House and the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society that will launch on February 6, 2015). This is intended to be a safe space for gender and sexual minorities.

Organic Bulk Buying Co-op
Gordon Neighbourhood House is excited to announce a partnership with United for Organics(UFO) Co-op. Together our goal is to increase access to healthy, local and organic produce.
We are committed to supporting a sustainable organic food production and distribution system that respects the environment. We purchase from local organic farmers whenever possible and maintain an environmental consciousness.
Members order online and a distribution market is held every second Tuesday morning at 8:00AM at Gordon Neighbourhood House.

New Video on Vancouver's Food Initiatives Featuring Gordon Neighbourhood House Goes Viral
In conjunction with the second anniversary of the Vancouver Food Strategy, the City of Vancouver recently launched, “What Feeds Us: How Food Fuels Vancouver”. The video highlights some key areas that have made an impact in Vancouver. The video was recently reported to have had over 1,000,000 views and features a few shots of Gordon Neighbourhood House and an interview with GNH's Executive Director, Paul Taylor.

Meet our friend and neighbour Esmat Mozaffarian Bakhtiari
This film was produced in Reel Youth's Youth & Seniors Film Program, in partnership with Gordon Neighbourhood House. The program brought together youth and older adults in a creative collaboration to celebrate older Canadians through story-telling and film, with the added benefit of fostering new inter-generational relationships. Essi is a wise and loving West End resident.
