2015 Budget Update

Happy New Year!

City of Burlington selects artist for Norton Community Park mural

Through its public art program, the City of Burlington has selected artist collective, PA System (Patrick Thompson and Alexa Hatanaka), to install the mural in Norton Community Park.

TransCanada Pipeline Information


As of January 2015, the TransCanada Pipeline is now referred to as Greater Golden Horseshoe Facilities Project.  They are proposing to add new natural gas measurement and control facilities to its Canadian Mainline system in Southern Ontario.  

One of the TransCanada sites included in this Project is the Mainline Valve Regulating Station (MLV 207), located on the east side of Highway 407, north of Guelph Line in the City of Burlington.  There will be public consultation and notices mailed to residents in the vicinity of the station and published in local newspapers week of January 12, 2015.

I will continue to provide more information as soon as I am aware.


Air Traffic Noise Complaints


Recently, I received an update from Toronto Pearson Community Engagement mailout.  I thought I would share with Ward 6 some useful information as I know some of you have brought this to my attention. 

Toronto Pearson Noise Management Program - The GTAA regularly reviews, validates and updates its noise management program so that it meets operational requirements, follows industry best practices and meets the needs and expectations of our communities.

In collaboration with the Community Environment and Noise Advisory Committee (CENAC), two important initiatives of the Five Year Noise Management Action Plan were completed in 2014 resulting in the following changes......READ MORE

 

City of Burlington Launched New Website


Recently the City of Burlington launched their new website.  This launch is a major component to continue "enhancing our customers' online experience".  You can find Council information under the tab "Your City".  Check us out! www.burlington.ca

Parking 101 and Drink Responsibly Flyers

A communication plan initiative is in store for our Burlington residents.  City staff will be using flyers as useful hand-outs, and there will be web and advertisement versions over the next few weeks as another form of communication.
 
The Parking 101 flyer will be ever evolving with up-coming parking changes.  Over the next few weeks, this flyer will be mass mailed to homes in the Orchard, Alton & Uptown Communities due to the staff direction parking changes of Dec. 18, 2014.
 
The Drink Responsibly & Park Overnight flyer will be hand-delivered to various downtown restaurants to promote overnight parking in our downtown garage and lots.

Mount Nemo Plateau Heritage Conservation District Study - Public Consultation Meeting

The City of Burlington is inviting residents to attend a consultation meeting about the Mount Nemo Plateau Heritage Conservation District Study.

Council approved staff report, PB-38-14 recommended that a Heritage Conservation District study process be initiated for the Mount Nemo Plateau area.......READ MORE

Updates on Traffic Calming for Taywood Drive and Donnic Drive


Staff sent out another notification to households on Taywood Drive which did not respond to the poll, requesting residents to complete the traffic calming poll.......READ MORE

Donnic Drive was polled in December 2014 and the results indicated 56% of households supported the installation of traffic calming measures.  Due to the time of the year, the required traffic counts cannot be completed until the spring of 2015.  Once those are complete, staff will determine if Donnic Drive meets criteria for the installation.  All residents will continue to be notified of the results.


Launch of Text 9-1-1 Service for Hearing Impaired


Halton Regional Police announced the launch of TEXT with 911, a new service that provides the capability for the deaf, deafened, hard of hearing or speech impaired (DHHSI) community to communicate with our emergency 9-1-1 services.......READ MORE


Future Community Meetings


Looking forward to attending the City staff and School staff meeting at Alton Village Public School on February 2.  I will also be in attendance for the Parent Council meeting at Hayden High School on Thursday, February 5.
