1) Friend and Supporter Needed for a Woman with an Intellectual Disability

PEI Citizen Advocacy matches volunteers from the community (advocates) with adults who identify as having an intellectual disability (protégés), on a one-on-one basis. The advocate provides friendship and support. And ensures that their protégé’s voice is heard and that their rights are protected. A Charlottetown woman has recently come to us asking for an advocate. She is feeling isolated and needs a friend and some support to help her find a better living situation. She is very thoughtful and capable and has requested a female advocate.

If you are interested in volunteering to support this young woman, or just interested to find out more about the opportunity, please call Rosalind at PEI Citizen Advocacy 902-566-3523 or email her at peica@eastlink.ca.  The relationships we facilitate, even though they may not consume a lot of the advocate’s time, often have a huge impact on the protégé’s life.

2) UN Trust Fund RFP

The UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, an inter-agency mechanism managed by UN Women on behalf of the UN system, supports innovative and pioneering programmes aimed at preventing and responding to all forms of violence against women and girls. They are now accepting applications for its 19th grant cycle from civil society organizations and networks — including non-governmental, women's and community-based organizations and coalitions and operational research institutions — and government authorities at the national and local levels. The deadline for submission of applications is January 29, 2015, 11:59 EST (GMT–5). All applications must be submitted online. The UN Trust Fund will not accept applications submitted via e-mail, regular post and/or facsimile. For full details about the application process, please consult: https://grants.unwomen.org/untf/cfp/application-guidelines

3) Presidential Review 2015 (corrected email address)

A Presidential Review Committee has started its work to review the performance of Dr. Alaa Abd-El Aziz, who is seeking a second term as President. UPEI Board of Governors established a Presidential Review Committee at their meeting on Thursday, November 27, 2014. The Committee updated a “Terms of Reference” document used in 2003 and this document has been approved by the Board of Governors.

On January 7, 2015, letters were sent to the off-campus contact list and the on-campus contact list, and a general notice was sent to all faculty and staff requesting comments. A January 23, 2015 deadline date for submissions was approved by Committee members. Participants may submit their written comments to {corrected email address: presidentialreview@upei.ca.} No anonymous submissions will be accepted. All responses and comments will remain strictly confidential and will be reviewed solely by the committee.

Following the review, the committee will make a recommendation to the Board of Governors regarding reappointment. For more information, go to the Presidential Review 2015 webpage.  Source: UPEI Website
