Take a magical journey with Oscar, a small-town magician with questionable ethics who is swept away to an enchanted land and finds himself in the middle of a power struggle between three witches. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil and save Oz before it is too late.
 
The movie is free, but skating fees still apply. Food, beer and wine available for purchase on-site at The Lake House. No outside beer or alcohol allowed. Movie starts at 7:30 pm.

As You Like It

Jan 30-Feb 15/Wortham Theatre at UofH

“All the world’s a stage” in this masterpiece about romance and mistaken identity. As You Like It traces the separate and intertwining journeys of Rosalind and Orlando, who have each been banished from their home and family.  Independently, they each set out with a faithful friend and loyal servant and make their way through the Forest of Arden. Lovers discover lovers, fathers find daughters, brothers reclaim brothers, people are transformed and evil is converted in this delightful story of love.

A Little Day Music

Feb 4/Wortham Theater Center

Join DaCamera Young Artists and other special guests for “A Little Day Music” on February 4th at 12 pm. The musicians will perform Leonard Bernstein’s Arias and Barcarolles in the Grand Foyer at the Wortham Center for free during the downtown lunch hour. The audience is invited to bring their own lunch. 

Allen Parkway Public Meeting

Feb 5/Neighborhood Resource Center Auditorium

The Downtown Redevelopment Authority and the City of Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering invite the public to a community meeting during which they will discuss plans for improving the flow, functionality, safety and aesthetics of Allen Parkway. 

Thursday Night Sessions

Thursdays/The Nightingale Room

One of downtown’s newest bars and upcoming music venues, The Nightingale Room, is excited to roll out its Thursday Night Sessions concert series and they’re kicking things off this week with a live set by local favorites, The Suffers!
 
Tickets are free and can be picked up at the bar on the Tuesday prior to each show. There are a limited number of tickets that will be given out and only one ticket per person is allowed. If you miss the early-bird tickets, there will be additional entries granted on the night of the show based on availability. Doors open at 8 pm.

Free Income Tax Preparation

Now-Apr 10/South Texas College of Law

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program at South Texas College of Law is offering free tax return preparation and electronic filing to low and moderate-income individuals and families (generally $53,000 and below). Returns are prepared by IRS certified tax preparers and both appointments or walk-in opportunities are available every Friday from 2 pm-7 pm now through April 10.
