First-time winner, RBC Capital, took away the title of Food Sort Champion with the most food sorted in 90 minutes. The ones to beat at our next Food Sort Challenge in May!
Eight companies raced against the clock to support Daily Bread!

January 15 marked Daily Bread’s Winter Food Sort Challenge, sponsored by Point Alliance.

Eight company teams worked up a sweat as they raced against the clock (and each other) to claim the prestigious title of Food Sort Champion. After almost 25,000 pounds of food was sorted, a new, first-time winner emerged! Congratulations to RBC Capital Markets for taking home the title.

“We choose to support Daily Bread because of its importance in our community,” says John Zarei, CEO of our sponsor, Point Alliance. “Food is a necessity to everyday life. And the Food Sort Challenge is a fun way for organizations and employees to together to fight hunger in our city.”

A special thank you to all teams that came out and showed their support, raising a staggering $18,000 for Daily Bread programs.

Save the date! Our next Food Sort Challenge is on May 13, 2015. Expect to be challenged, expect to be entertained, and expect to make a lasting impact! Spaces are limited, so register today with Sandra Agayby at sandra@dailybread.ca.

Elder at Mount Olive church continues charitable efforts despite ALS diagnosis

Daily Bread’s food distribution network is made up of hardworking, committed people who work every day to fight hunger and poverty. People like Radcliffe Lennon, who continues to be committed to community service, in spite of a devastating diagnosis of ALS. Through his efforts with Mount Olive Food Bank, Radcliffe has helped touch the lives of hundreds in his neighbourhood.

“His strength in character and belief in community service continues to guide his efforts as he and his family adjust to Radcliffe’s diagnosis of ALS.” says Nikki McAlister, Daily Bread staff member. “When I first met him three years ago, he was running a food bank in addition to a full-time job. Radcliffe always goes above and beyond. He would also drive out to a low income senior’s residence, delivering nutritious, hot meals to them. Radcliffe’s work in the community has been invaluable.”

Over $2.5 million and 740,000 pounds of food raised during our Holiday Drive!

We knew our goals were ambitious, but we also know that fighting hunger requires ambitious goals. And thanks to incredible community support we surpassed our Holiday Drive goals of $2.5 million and reached 74% of our food goal with 740,000 pounds of food donated.

The money and food raised during our Holiday Drive – one of our most important drives of the year – helps provide food for over 200 programs and thousands of people who are struggling with hunger in Toronto over the winter months. Thank you to everyone who made a gift, donated their time or ran a food drive to support Daily Bread this holiday. We couldn’t do this important work without you.

Consider running a food and fund drive today.

The tremendous support we received during our Holiday Drive will provide food to over 200 of our member agency food banks in the coming months. But as donations slow down, the need for our services and for food does not. But you can help. Please consider running a special “off-season” drive or event today and help keep our shelves stocked all year long.

To get information about running a drive please email us at fooddrive@dailybread.ca or call 416-203-0050.
