Open Day at French Bay 1st Feb

As part of Volvo National Sailing and Boating Day

FBYC needs to double in size and Open Day is a chance for us all to keep pushing towards this goal!

At 9am this Sunday please invite anyone you feel would like to try sailing down to French Bay to have a go. We have 4 x Topaz yachts for competent sailors to have a turn in. For those who have never sailed but are keen to have a try one of our senior sailing members will take you out for a ride. We will also have a Weta those who want a taste of real speed. Opti and Starling sailors to come down with their boats for a sail and show other kids what sailing can offer Others are welcome to bring their boats down for a sail too. The forecast is 9-15 knots from the north with quite a bit of cloud cover.
Please tell your school groups, community and friends and invite as many people down who you think will enjoy a spin in a fast sailing dinghy. The water's warm so conditions are perfect for introducing your friends to life at FBYC!

For members, we are looking for everyone to turn out to support this event. We need:
  • Skippers to take people out
  • RIB support
  • help in the galley and people to help on the ramp
If you can help, please email fbycsailing@gmail.com with details of how you can help.
All helpers please be down at the club at 8 am to help set-up.

  • Ngaio Balfour, our topped placed Starling sailor with a creditable 26th
  • Carlos Brown and Gavin Ninnes for making the Optimist Open gold fleet with Carlos taking FBYC line honours with a 31st out of 109 participants
  • All the green fleet sailors who did French Bay proud in their first major regatta: Ulysse, Jessica, Cosmo and Meg

Holiday Learn to Sail

Two successful courses completed over the holidays

We have run two exceedingly successful Holiday Learn to Sail programmes. A big thank you to our Youth coaches Anton, Oliver, Jake, Joe and Hamish for making this such a fun but educational experience for those who took part, we have had some real positive feedback from the parents.

If anyone has any photos, we'd love to post them on our Facebook page. Please get in touch with Paddy at fbycsailing@gmail.com if you do. We are now looking to see how many participants are interested in instigating Tuesday evening Learn to Sail sessions. If anyone who has taken part in a Holiday Learn to Sail event and wants to hear more about the Tuesday evening proposal, please contact us.
