Recently Constructed Water Tower in Gemena, Democratic Republic of Congo

Water Project in DR Congo

Community Water System Assessment

In just over a week, I have the opportunity to co-lead a small civil engineering team to Gemena, DR Congo, a community of 200,000. We will work with World Vision, reviewing the water system construction progress and making recommendations for future system plans. May Christ be glorified through us as we serve this community and as we seek to develop the best water supply solutions!
Please pray that each team member receives his visa in time for departure, as there was a delay receiving a required document from Congo. Also pray that our time there would be a blessing to the community and that lives would continue to be transformed as World Vision works with local churches. Read more about this project at http://emiworld.org/projects/projectprofile_5644.php, and I'll keep you updated with prayer requests from the field.

Lunch with a new Congelese friend in Paris

France, Friends, French

Blessed to be back in France

After a break for Christmas and celebrating the new year, my class of 6 dove into level B1 French. While I continue language school, I'm co-leading a Connect Group with Hillsong Paris, welcoming people into the house of the Lord on Sundays, and continuing to make new friends from church and community around Paris. I was honored to be invited to lunch by a new friend from Congo last weekend; I've met with a new church friend from Burkina Faso; and I'm doing my best to keep in touch with friends in Senegal and Ghana.
This weekend, the Hoffman family is planning to come visit the Wrights and me in Massy. We're all excited for a sweet time of fellowship as a part of the EMI West Africa family!

Looking Ahead

Vision and Plans for 2015

As EMI looks to the future, our vision of designing a world of hope has key elements of design, discipleship, and diversity, centered around Jesus. Our West Africa team will be talking more about our specific Senegal office vision and strategy in the coming weeks and months.
Personally, I'll be staying in France through the beginning of May. The additional time this year to focus on French has already been extremely beneficial for my speaking and fluidity. Praise the Lord!
From mid-May through July, I'll spend some time in Colorado (and possibly a few other states) to connect with as many of you as possible. In late May/early June, I will likely be co-leading another hospital assessment project with Mercy Ships in Madagascar.
Then I plan to attend a culture and language training program during the month of August near Colorado Springs. In September, I'm expecting to move to Senegal with a brief stop in France! My work will begin in Senegal as a learner (along with office preparations and project development). I may also have opportunity to work a bit in Ghana as we explore how to start a local chapter of EMI there.

Pray for the Nations

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. (1 Tim 2:1-2)

This season and the recent events in France and Niger have been a reminder to pray for people and rulers around the world.

Please join me in prayer for France, Francophone countries, and West Africa. God is faithful, and we pray that His is accomplished on earth as it is in heaven. May we be full of grace to love everyone around us, including enemies.

Prayer & Praise

  • Partners to cover around $7000 for completing language school, a month-long training course in Colorado Springs, and moving costs to West Africa this year.

  • Pray for the Wright and Hoffman families as they study French. Pray especially for health and wise time management.

  • Praise God for friends and community in France and at language school! He's continuing to bless me with new friends and connections.

  • Pray for EMI Ghana vision to encourage and organize design professionals there as they integrate design and missions.
