Petersburg Mayor W Howard Myers delivered his inaugural State of the City address on Monday, February 9 to an audience of 125+ people at the Union Train Station. His address was about city accomplishments, future priorities and focus areas, including economic development, workforce development, education and revitalization. On Monday, February 9, City Manager William E. Johnson, III had the opportunity to be a panelist at Virginia State University's Student Government Association Brother to Brother event. The panel served as a platform for students to receive insight on everyday life and gain knowledge on what it takes to succeed in the workplace.
Giant Letters of LOVE will be up for view at the Petersburg Public Library for the next two months, beginning with Friday for the Arts! on February 13, 2015. The “First Love” exhibit at the Library is collaboration between the Petersburg Department of Cultural affairs, Arts & Tourism, the Petersburg Department of Public Works, the Petersburg Public Library, and Public Art Petersburg, a new startup non-profit group. Washington's Birthday - City Closed, February 16
City government offices, including City Hall, the City Hall Annex and the Petersburg Freedom Support Center, will be closed on Monday, February 16 in observance of George Washington’s birthday. Offices will reopen at normal business hours on Tuesday, February 17.
 
Monday’s closings include Parks and Leisure Services programs and activities, the Petersburg Public Library, Museums and the Visitor Centers. Dogwood Trace Golf Course will operate normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
 
Petersburg Area Transit (PAT) will also operate on a normal schedule; however, administrative staff and the customer service desk will be closed in observance of the holiday.
 
Central Virginia Waste Management Authority CVWMA curbside recycling collection and trash collections will continue as regularly scheduled for the holiday. There will be no holiday delay for trash collection service for the week of February 16 - 20. Residents should place recycling container(s) out for pick-up by 7 a.m. on their regular scheduled collection day.

Join the Petersburg Public Library for an after school story time performance with storyteller Sheila Arnold. Large groups must RSVP by February 15 with Leslie Johnson, Children's Librarian at (804) 733-2387, ext. 401.

Petersburg Virginia Cooperative Extension is having a FREE Brunch & Learn for America Saves Week on February 25, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. During this workshop participants will gain skills to understand the advantages of goal-setting and how to set SMART goals while exploring the basic principles of a spending plan. Join the Petersburg Virginia Cooperative Extension and Wells Fargo in this National Initiative and get tips on saving money while learning how to become a Central Virginia Saver. Meet Flower! This is a gorgeous female medium haired kitty cat approximately eight months old. She is playful, sweet and very loving. She has a white strip down her back just like the skunk in Bambi, so we named her Flower! Please come visit her and all of PACC and find a wonderful new companion. Visit us this weekend at Petsmart in Colonial Heights and celebrate Valentines day with a four legged sweetheart!
