  March 2015
Welcome to our March 2015 email newsletter
I am delighted to welcome you to the March newsletter from Baildon Town Council.

Spring is in the air and many of you will be pleased that the monthly Farmers’ Market has resumed after its, brief, winter closure. I am delighted to be able to let you know that Julie Bower, a Baildon resident, has recently been appointed as the Market Manager and she takes up her duties this month. Julie will be pleased to hear from you if you have any comments or questions about the Market.

This month, we can look forward to the 'Run on Sun Fun' event, celebrating solar energy,  at Baildon Methodist Church on Saturday 7 March, 2.0 – 5.0pm. This event, which will feature many stalls and entertainments for all ages, has been commissioned by the Town Council and is being organised by Baildon Friends of the Earth. If you feel like getting outdoors into our lovely countryside, check out the Town Council website for information about spring guided walks.

There are only two months to go now to the election of new Town Councillors. A Town Council is only as good as the people who serve on it! Several of the current Town Councillors are standing down at this election. If you are interested in becoming a local decision-maker, please consider standing as a Town Councillor this May.

Thanks to all of you for the many ways in which you contribute to strengthening the community life of Baildon.

Best wishes
Chris Flecknoe
Chair of Baildon Town Council
Baildon Youth Council
Did you know that Baildon Town Council has, this year, provided funding for a youth worker from the HALE Project to establish a Baildon Youth Council?

It is good news that twelve young people have joined the Youth Council, and we shall be welcoming some of them to the Town Council meeting on Monday 9th March, so that they can tell the Town Councillors about the issues and activities which are important to young people in Baildon.

The young people have already contributed to building good relationships across the generations by organising a 'Turkey and Tinsel' Christmas meal in December (hard at work behind the scenes pictured right).

It is good to be able to report that one of the Baildon Youth Council members was selected to go to the Houses of Parliament and meet senior politicians as part of a national scheme to encourage young people to meet and influence decision-makers (outside the iconic number 10 pictured left).
Fairtrade fortnight - 28th February to 18th March
Baildon Fairtrade Group held a number of events as part of Fairtrade fortnight.
You may have seen the information stall at the Co-op, Northgate, on Friday 27th February at which a group of pupils from Glenaire School offered information as well as free tea bag samples.

Also present were District Councillor and local resident Debbie Davies, and the Chair of Baildon Town Council proudly displaying the Baildon Chain of Office.

You may also have enjoyed a cuppa, and wearing a tea cosy hat, at the BIG BREW at St John’s Church Hall, Hallcliffe, on Saturday 28th February.

All money raised by the BIG BREW (doubled under the Government's ‘UKAid’ scheme) went to Traidcraft’s Fair Necessities Appeal to ‘help families grow more, earn more, eat more’.

Help the environment AND keep costs down!
Did you know that throwing recyclables like plastic bottles and paper into your green refuse bin costs four times as much to dispose of than if you’d recycled it!

Not only is recycling great for the environment but it’s also the most cost effective way for Bradford Council to treat your waste. In times of budget pressures and council funding cuts it’s the one thing we can all do to help reduce council costs.
There are lots of ways to recycle in Bradford. The easiest way is to make use of the fortnightly kerbside recycling collections that are provided to homes across the Bradford district. If you haven’t got a recycling bin order one online or call 01274 431000 to order your free bin today. For more information on the full range of recycling services visit  Bradford recycling or download the Bradford Council mobile app.
