FOLLOW THE PLAYWRIGHT

Mentorship Edition

Jake Pascoe

Hello Members,

To offer meaningful professional development opportunities and to nurture playwriting, PGC partners with the Ontario Sears Drama Festival to provide a six-month mentorship opportunity and public reading for an emerging playwright.

In this special Mentorship Edition of Follow the Playwright, it is with pleasure that I introduce you to Jake Pascoe. Pascoe's Monster cleverly examines the relationship between a young boy and the monster in his room who comes out while he is sleeping. When Death makes an unexpected appearance, our perception of death is not only addressed but challenged.

This is the program's third mentorship opportunity, with Jake Pascoe being mentored by Dennis Foon. In 2013, Rosa Laborde was selected by Curtis te Brink, the Sears Festival Playwright Award-winner, to work on one of his plays. A public reading of Curtis' work took place during PGC's Tom Hendry Awards event. In 2012, Ed Roy mentored Bilal Baig.

Jake Pascoe was born in Toronto, Ontario and began writing at a young age. His first novel “Spiderman vs Harry Potter” went unpublished due to several counts of copyright infringement as well as most publishers refusing manuscripts written in crayon. He has since expanded his writerly interests onto the stage and his first play, Rose, made its debut at the 2014 Ontario Sears festival where it went on to win the Wayne Fairhead Best New Play award. He is interested in pursuing a various array of writing including standup comedy, novels, and
screenplays. He currently studies at the University of British Columbia where he hopes to major in Film Production.
