This Week's Notes

The forecast looks good for the weekend as high pressure moves in over the next day or so.  Conditions should be clear with below average temperatures. Sounds like it could be perfect flying weather.

As you may know, the EAA has both their Ford Trimotor and B-17 in the state for the next couple of weeks.  The visitation schedule can be found further down the page.

Valiant Air Command Fly-In Breakfasts Cancelled for February & March

We received the following from the good folks at the Valiant Air Command:
"Since Valentine’s Day falls on the same day as our next planned fly-in, the VAC Warbird Museum WILL NOT hold the monthly Fly-In Breakfast on Saturday, 14 February.

Also, since the second Saturday in March falls on our air show weekend and the Warbird Museum will be closed, there WILL NOT be a monthly Fly-In Breakfast on Saturday, 14 March.

Instead we invite everyone to attend our annual TICO Warbird AirShow March 13-15, 2015.

Headlining the event will be the USAF Thunderbirds. This will be an exciting air show with prop and jet fighters, bombers, aerial demonstrations, aerobatics and a special salute to Vietnam Veterans.  Something new is the addition of a VAC Members Only Chalet on the AirShow line.  Bring your membership card to enter and enjoy the shade, the chairs and the hospitality!

The next scheduled second Saturday Fly-In Breakfast will resume on Saturday, 11 April.

See you at the Warbird AirShow!"

Best Bets for This Weekend:

This week's Best Bets are two St. Valentines Day themed events.  The first is the River Acres Airport fly-in breakfast in Okeechobee and the other is the fly-in lunch at Grass Roots Airpark in Mascotte.  So, this may a great opportunity to both fly and say thank you to your significant other!

Reno-Stead Airport (KRTS) - Reno, NV
52nd National Championship Air Races

The National Championship Air Races is the last event of its kind, carrying on the tradition of the Cleveland Air Races of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. In 1964, Bill Stead organized an air race near Reno, Nevada, and the Reno National Championship Air Races were born. The event that Bill Stead started in the Nevada desert more than 47 years ago is still going strong. The event has only been interrupted once in September of 2001 when all aircraft in the United States were grounded following the terrorists attacks in New York and Washington.

Held every September just north of Reno, the National Championship Air Races have become an institution for northern Nevada and aviation enthusiasts from around the world. For one week, the high desert north of Reno becomes home to hundreds of aircraft, their pilots and crews. In the past ten years, the event has attracted more than 200,000 spectators and generated more than $80 million a year for the region’s economy. The event features six racing classes, a large display of static aircraft and several military and civil flight demonstrations.

Photo of the Week

A beautiful example of a Piper Arrow.  Outside of the larger Saratoga and twin-engine Seneca, the Arrow is the ultimate derivative of the original PA-28 Cherokee platform.  The entire line has a well earned reputation for honest, predictable flight characteristics, ease of maintenance and reasonable operating costs.  For more information check out the page at Pilot Friend: http://www.pilotfriend.com/aircraft%20performance/Piper/17.htm
