NCD Commission Steps Forward with ‘Action Plan’

Having a prepared and detailed Strategy Plan for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) is only one part of the process. The next step for Barbados is putting the words into action, across all levels of society. Recently, this was shared by the Chairman of the National Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) Commission, Barbados, Professor Sir Trevor Hassell, who promised that next on the agenda is an Action Plan. CARPHA Observes World Cancer Day 2015
|
|
|
In the Caribbean cancers are the second leading cause of death. Nearly one half of cancers are preventable or treatable if detected early. Among females, breast cancer is the main cause of death, followed by cervical cancer. Prostate cancer is ranked as the leading cause of cancer death among males, with lung cancer being the second main cause of cancer death.

Barbadians Warned to Take Care Against DVT
Deep Veins Thrombosis (DVT) has been cited as the third most common cardiovascular disorder after heart attack and stroke, interms of mortality and potential complications. Anthony Harris, Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgeon and Director of Medical Services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has revealed that in Barbados, this ailment may actually be the fourth most common, with peripheral vascular disease preceding it.
