Wreath Laying Ceremony with Czech President Zeman - March 2, 2015


The Embassy of the Czech Republic, in collaboration with American Friends of the Czech Republic (AFoCR), presents a wreath laying ceremony commemorating the anniversary of Tomáš G. Masaryk's birth on Monday,

March 2, at 4:15 pm. The event will include remarks by the President of the Czech Republic, Miloš Zeman; Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United States, Petr Gandalovič; and representatives from AFoCR and Sokol Baltimore. (To be confirmed.)

TG Masaryk Anniversary - March 7, 2015


Students of the Czech and Slovak School Sokol Washington will participate in the of TG Masaryk Anniversary celebration which will take place at the Embassy of the Czech Republic on Saturday, March 7, at 3 p.m. 

The program will include a remembrance of TG Masaryk by SVU and songs and poems performed by the school children of Sokol Washington and Slavic American Sokol.  

After the program light refreshments will be served.

"Říkanky a masky" - March 28, 2015


We invite children of all ages to take part in an event, which has become an annual tradition at the Embassy of the Czech Republic, "Říkanky a masky" - Children's Costume Party with music and dancing on Saturday, March 28 at 3 p.m. Children (and adults) are invited to come dressed in a costume or a mask of their choice. 

Children will be awarded a prize for every poem recited or song sung in Czech or Slovak.  Additional prizes will be awarded for best costume and to the best dancer.

American Sokol Washington, DC membership dues 2015 are as follow:
• Individual Membership (adult /voting) $35.00
• Two Adults Membership (both voting) $65.00
• Family Membership I. (one adult voting / all children up to 18 years and other non-voting adults) $45.00
• Family Membership II. (both adults voting / all children up to 18 years) $70.00
• New Member One-time Administrative Fee $15.00

Please remember, you are not a full Sokol member with voting privileges until you participate in a monthly meeting(s) and consent to take the Sokol oath.

Miss Czech-Slovak US Pageant 2015-2016

Become a contestant in the Miss Czech-Slovak US Pageant and submit your application no later then March 31, 2015

All young women between the ages of 16-26 of Czech, Slovak, Moravian or Silesian decent, who love their heritage and want to promote the Czech and Slovak culture across the US, are welcome!

The Miss Czech-Slovak US pageant is held the first weekend is August in Wilber, NE. At-large contestants must be approved by May 1 and all final pageant entries are due by June 1.

Film & Beer Series - Bistro Bohem


This marks the fourth year of the Film and Beer Series at Bistro Bohem. The series this year focuses on the work of acclaimed screenwriter and actor Zdeněk Svěrák, who is renowned for the Oscar-winning film Kolya. All of the films will screen in Czech with English subtitles.
Each screening includes one free beer as well as an introduction by a representative from the Czech Embassy. All screenings are subject to change. The screenings take place the third Tuesday of every month.

There will be a Slovak Mass on Sunday, March 1, at 10:00, in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, in the chapel of Our Lady of Missions.

Reminders
PARENTS:
- children must be supervised at all times!
- no running in the hallways
- no eating anywhere, except the All Purpose Room
- no sitting or standing in the hallways; you can do so in APR
- only use bathrooms in the hallway; don't use bathrooms in classrooms
 
TEACHERS:
- after each class, you are responsible to WALK children back to All Purpose Room. No unsupervised children in the hallways.
- please do not let children out of classroom before 8pm; the only exception is bathroom use.
 
Preschool - parents must pick their child/children up at the classroom at 8pm and walk them to APR, gym or leave.

Orienteering

Let's hope winter will not change plans for the outdoor activities and we will see you at the events organized by local orienteering club in March. You can try it yourself or bring all family to enjoy this outdoor activity. All levels and ages are welcome. Next few events are held in Maryland parks. First meet is at Patapsco Valley State Park (near Catonsville,MD), Sunday, March 1st.  Following week, Sunday March 8th, we will meet at Greengelt Park, MD and on Saturday March 14th again in Maryland, this time in Wheaton Park.
