UWC New York’s Project Week with UWC-USA (March 7th – 15th )

SIGN UP FOR ALUMNI RECEPTION ON MARCH 7TH!

This year, for the first time ever, UWC New York (that’s us!) will be hosting 12 first-year students from UWC-USA. They will come to New York and stay with alumni from Saturday March 7th to Sunday March 15th.

Here’s what we have planned so far:

  • Saturday March 7th -  6:30 - 8:30 PM Project Week Kick-off Reception with the UWC NY Alumni community (that’s you!)  at Pearson College alum Meera Gandhi’s residence on the Upper East Side. This is a wonderful event to come together as a community and give a warm welcome to the visiting UWC-USA students.  Tickets will go towards helping cover the cost of Project Week for students so that this trip is affordable to all.

  • Monday March 9th - Thursday March 12th – Students will be volunteering with 3 great local charities that are partnering with us in this effort (thanks to Irfan Hasan [UWC-USA]
and Robin LeBaron [UWC Adriatic] for helping us line these up!)

We want YOU to get involved! This is probably the most exciting initiative we’ve organized and we hope to make it a yearly tradition that will strengthen the bonds between students and alumni. Start by signing up for the March 7th, reception! If you have other ideas on how you could help, please e-mail us at uwc.new.york@gmail.com. We’ll be announcing additional events as well as profiling our visiting first-year students in the coming weeks. So stay tuned!

Warm Regards,

The UWC - NY Board (Kevin, Megan, Ryan, Niraj, Faika, Heske, Bonnie, Brian)

3. CALL FOR LEGAL PRO-BONO HELP!!!

The UWC New York alumni group was formed with the goal of strengthening the UWC community locally through events, volunteering opportunities and other initiatives. As we continue our mission, we would like to formalize our presence and establish a non-profit entity with 501(c)(3) status for UWC NY. A 501(c)(3) legal entity will also eventually provide us the platform to make tax-deductible donations as a community to support UWC scholarships and colleges.

We would love some help from the UWC alumni as we begin our legal efforts. In particular,  we would need guidance on legal language as well as on operational matters such as state/federal filing requirements.

If you are able to assist, please contact
uwc.new.york@gmail.com

4. Request for Volunteer Profiles and Projects.

We will start featuring alumni and the community or volunteer projects they are engaging with. Contact us if you would like to share how you are engaging your community through volunteering. We hope others with similar interests can join you at your event or program when they learn about it.
