REC closes out at 100% goal

Welcome to the CliniSync Community

We'd like to welcome our new practices and facilitiles to the CliniSync Community. Those below can now have their physicians, nurses, practice managers and other staff take advantage of software at no charge. This allows them to receive reports and results directly from hospitals, message other providers, and track referrals in the CliniSync network. CliniSync assists with Meaningful Use requirements, too.

REC closes out at 100% goal

As the Ohio Health Information Partnership closed out its Regional Extension Center grant February 7, there's cause for celebration. We met 100 percent of our goal -- 6,000 primary care physicians have successfully adopted electronic health records over the past several years and have achieved Meaningful Use Stage 1, the highest number of any single REC in the nation. Here's a message from Cathy Costello, who runs the REC program.

“The success of the Regional Extension Center is attributed to the hard work and dedication of the physicians, hospitals and other providers who set Meaningful Use as a priority. What started as a dream five years ago has become a reality, with more than 80% of the Ohio physicians and 90% of the hospitals on electronic health records,” Costello says.

“We thank the other members of our team: the Ohio Department of Health’s Health IT personnel and public health reporting experts; the Ohio Department of Medicaid’s MPIP personnel and help desk staff; ONC and CMS’s subject matter experts; our regional partners; and the numerous MU coordinators working within hospital systems and practices. Without each person’s expertise, this program could never have been fully implemented. Thanks to all of you from The Partnership’s REC staff!”

CliniSync makes the news

Top 10 Tech Trends: Survivor: Edition HIE -- Can Statewide HIEs Achieve Sustainability?

The answer is a qualified ‘yes’—but, say those in the know, it will take business realism and a strong dose of ingenuity

Excerpt from the article: Part of OHIP’s success lies in how it was created, Paoletti says. “We were created in the late summer of 2009 by the administration at that time,” he explains.

“We spent the first two years planning, developing, and getting the technology in place. In other words, we spent a good two years at a very low budget cycle, with only a couple of employees, trying to get everything arranged. We really started our implementations in 2011, and our first hospital went live in December 2011.”

Now, he notes, 143 hospitals across Ohio—all but about 20 in the state—are working with CliniSync, and 73 have gone live in data-sharing. What’s more, 600 practices representing over 3,000 physicians not already connected to CliniSync via their participating hospitals, are also participating.

MU rule would reduce reporting to 90 days

CMS announced a new rule expected this spring that would be responsive to provider concerns about software implementation, information exchange readiness, and other related concerns in 2015. It would also be intended to propose changes reflective of developments in the industry and progress toward program goals achieved since the program began in 2011.
CMS is considering proposals to:
  • Shorten the EHR reporting period in 2015 to 90 days from the original 365 days.
  • Realign hospital EHR reporting periods to the calendar year to allow eligible hospitals more time to incorporate 2014 edition software into their workflows and to better align with other CMS quality programs.
  • Modify other aspects of the program to match long-term goals, reduce complexity, and lessen providers’ reporting burdens.
