Just gonna start with a short apology... this is late coming out. You would think with the amount of snowstorms lately I would have more time to get this out to you guys, right? But as turns out, it makes life crazy busy! No excuses! I'm sorry and will make an effort to be better!

Now, onto the good stuff!

February is upon us and you know what that means right? That's right... hearts and flowers! And to celebrate the month of Love, we are hosting what seems to be becoming an annual Love Letter Tournament! To be held on February 14th at 1PM right in-store! So bring your sweetie out and battle for the heart of the Princess! <3

Did you know that Exploding Kittens has, well... exploded?? There is still time to get in on this awesome card game! I can't wait to get mine! It's being made in part by The Oatmeal- who doesn't love The Oatmeal? You can imagine the humor involved now right? I bought in for the NSFW deck! Are you shocked?

Board Game Night this month is featuring Deckbuilding Games Take 2! We had a few very dedicated individuals out in the middle of a snowstorm to join us, and we are going to do it again on February 28th!

This month we will feature the trio of DC Deckbuilding games in a tournament.

The tournament will be three rounds.
Round 1: DC Deckbuilding Base set
Round 2: Heroes' Unite
Round 3: Forever Evil

Prizes will be awarded based on ranking, sportsmanship, and a door prize.

Admission: $5

For anyone not interested in playing in the tournament open play will be available.

Commanding Dragons

As a follow up to my Commanders of Fate Reforged article, I'd like to do a quick list of the non-legendary cards in each color that I think will be making regular appearances in Commander decks. Each set seems to have a few cards that pop up again and again in our local Commander games, and it will be interesting to see which cards from Fate Reforged will become new staples.

Running through the list, there are a number of cards that are very good, but I'm trying to find cards that will be practically "must includes" for decks -- even if it is only for certain deck archetypes or color combinations.

If you see anything I'm missing, please let us know!

Soulfire Grand Master

I may be cheating a bit as Soulfire Grand Master also includes split mana in her ability and will require you to play her in a deck that includes white, blue and red. Still, this seemed like a good place to list her.

Turning every instant and sorcery into a Lightning Helix sounds like fun, and if you have the spare mana you can keep those spells coming back to your hand.

A shame she isn't Legendary. She might have made a fun Commander. Anyone playing a deck in her colors and using any form of burn spells will want to have her included.

Torrent Elemental

Like Soulfire Grand Master, Torrent Elemental can only be included in a three or more color deck -- this time Blue, Black and Green. If you can pull it off though, this guy is another must include. Tapping down all creatures a defending player controls each time he attacks can make for an instant win. As an added bonus, the Torrent Elemental can be played from exile, meaning he likely won't stay dead for long -- particularly if the player has any delve cards they can use to exile him. Key Commander removal cards like Swords to Plowshares won't get rid of him for long!

Crux of Fate

A board wipe for 5 mana in black is pretty good - only one more than Damnation. If your playing dragon tribal, being able to destroy all non-dragons is fantastic. It would also make a good fit for any deck running a dragon commander (for example, Prossh in the Power Hungry commander deck)

Mob Rule

This is likely to be a game ender in Commander and most often you will see the first option played the most. Taking control of all creatures on the board with power 4 or greater could pull away enough of one player's defenders to allow you to swing in for the kill. If someone managed to drop a token army on the board, you may be able to use the second ability to throw it back at them.

Frontier Siege

While I really like Temur Sabertooth, Frontier Siege's ability to generate crazy amounts of mana for anyone running green makes it almost a must-play. The second ability may be useful too if you find yourself with as much mana as you'll ever need and able to drop large flyers on the battlefield.

Harsh Sustenance

The casting on this is pretty cheap and you'll get value out of it even if you have only a moderate number of creatures. If you are running anything that generates tokens though, this card may simply wreck someone's day and give you a significant lead. At the common level of rarity, it's also a pretty easy card to get ahold of.

Ugin

Not much to be said here, particularly if you are running artifacts or colorless creatures. You can also use Ugin's -X ability at zero cost to wipe the board of frustrating token armies.

His ultimate won't get nearly as much use as his +2 and -X though.
