Week of February 9, 2015 | KC Downtown Streetcar Construction Update

Crossroads Central Business District River Market

Highlights

Delaware St track work started this week and is anticipated to last 4 weeks. Delaware between 3rd-Independence is closed for 4 weeks during track construction. No on-street parking during this time. 



The Downtown Lunch Bunch is meeting on Delaware St this week. Make lunch plans at The Farmhouse and Cafe al Dente, both on Delaware St between 3rd-5th Streets, and help support these local restaurants. Read more about them here

This Week

CROSSROADS
Pershing to 20th
Track work:
Week of Feb 9: Install IJ and weld rail, Construct track, pour track slab and grade pre-curve. Main St Bridge pour Feb. 13. Traffic shift on Main St Viaduct to take place Feb. 18. 

OCS Work:
OCS work taking place on and underneath the Main St Viaduct.
20th to 17th
Ongoing OCS and traffic signal work in the area between Truman Rd South to 19th St. Work will take place within the sidewalks and parking lane. 

Ongoing southbound track construction to start on westside of Main from 18th St - 20th St. Work is anticipated to take 4 weeks. 

Lane shifts on 19th St east and west of Main St due to ongoing track work.
Feb. 10-Feb. 13: 18th St closed to thru traffic between Baltimore and Main for southbound track work. Traffic detoured to 17th St and 19th St.
17th to Truman Road south
Ongoing OCS work on Main St from Truman Rd South to 18th St. Work will take up the parking lane in this segment as well as sidewalks.

16th closed Baltimore-Main for non-streetcar related work
CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT
Truman Road north to 12th
Third party private utility work ongoing this week south of 13th St near the H&R Block Headquarters.
Ongoing Overhead Catenary System work ongoing between Truman Road North and 12th Street. 
12th to 10th
Water Work: 
Water and sewer work along Main St from 9th to 7th St. 9th St is closed between Main and Walnut.
Water work at 12th and Main. Anticipated to last until late February. 

NIGHT SHIFT water work on Main St between 9th and 10th Streets. During this time, and between the hours of 7pm-5am, Mondays-Fridays, Main Street will be closed between 9th-10th Streets with no on-street parking. 9th St will also remain closed east and west of Main St, 24/7, with local access to garages only. This closure will be in place for 3 weeks.  Loud construction work to occur prior to 1030pm. 

During the Main St night closure:
-- Southbound traffic will be detoured to 8th St-Walnut-Petticoat-Main
-- Northbound traffic will be detoured to 10th-Walnut-7th-Main

Local access to garages will be maintained and night deliveries will be accommodated. 
10th to 7th
Water & Sewer Work:
Work along Main St between 9th-7th. Intermittent lane closures will occur but there will be one lane of traffic in each direction on Main St. maintained at all times.

7th to Independence
Delaware Bridge (over I-70): Active track work in intersection of Delaware and Independence.
RIVER MARKET
5th, Delaware to Grand
Southbound track work on Delaware between 5th St and Independence Ave. Work is anticipated to take 4 weeks.

5th Street open eastbound only from Delaware to just west of Main . The eastern entrance to the City Market parking lot will be accessible from the west and the east. 5th Street will remain this way until track construction on Delaware is complete, which will be the second week of March.

Feb. 9 - March 9, 2015: Track work on Delaware between 3rd St and Independence. Delaware closed to thru traffic, 3rd - Independence, during this time. Parking available on 3rd St, 5th St, and in area public parking lots.
Grand, 5th to 3rd
No current work on Grand. Adjacent work is main line water work along 3rd St from Main to Grand. On-street parking is limited.
3rd, Delaware to Grand
Water Work:
Main line water work along 3rd from Main to Grand. Two-way traffic will be maintained but there is no on-street parking from Grand to Main St. There is on street parking along 3rd St between Wyandotte and just west of Main St. 

Off alignment Water Work:
Main water line upgrades along Delaware between 2nd-3rd St. Work started Feb. 9 and anticipated to last 4 weeks. Delaware between 2nd-3rd is open to southbound traffic only with no on street parking. Local access and parking lot access permitted. 
Delaware, Independence to 3rd
Water Work:
  • Brick restoration on 4th St, east of Delaware, anticipate completion Feb. 13. 
  • Water work on Delaware between 2nd-3rd started February 9, 2015 and anticipated to last 4 weeks. Delaware between 2nd-3rd is open to southbound traffic only. No on-street parking during work. 
Track Work:
  • Feb. 9: Start of track construction on Delaware between 3rd-Independence. Delaware between 3rd-Independence to close for 4 weeks during construction. No on-street parking on Delaware. 
The traffic pattern for this portion of Delaware is as follows:
  • Delaware St. closed between Independence and 3rd St.
  • 5th Street open eastbound only from Delaware to just west of Main. The eastern entrance to the City Market parking is accessible from the west and the east. 5th Street will remain this way until track construction on Delaware is complete, which will be the second week of March.
  • Users of the DE Loft Parking Lot at the southeast corner of 5th and Delaware can access the lot from Independence Ave and NOT 5th St.
Grand to Vehicle Maintenance Facility (Singleton Yard)
Continued rebar and pour work on mezzanine deck and structural slab. Skylight work this week. All work is weather dependent. 

 

Anticipated completion of all private (third-party) utility work by Spring 2015. KC Streetcar Constructors' track work continues in the River Market, Crossroads and Power and Light District into March 2015.  Water/sewer work anticipated to be complete by late Spring 2015. Systems work, such as the overhead power system, will continue into Summer 2015.
About the Downtown Kansas City Streetcar Starter Line
The two-mile, north-south Downtown KC Streetcar will travel along Main Street and connect the River Market to Crown Center and Union Station, serving the Central Business District, the Crossroads Art District, and the Power and Light District, as well as numerous businesses, restaurants, art galleries, educational facilities and residents.
