Special Request

We need your help!

I want to take this opportunity to thank our faithful donors for their continued generosity and support of Mission To Mexico.  Since 1996, we have relied on a variety of donor sources to fund our general operating budget which allows us to deliver much needed groceries, hygiene items and school supplies to more than 650 families on a consistent basis (*).

As a result of prudent fiscal management, our donations have always covered our cost to serve and have also allowed us to build a reserve that supplements our operating budget when there are fluctuations in donations and expenses.    From 2009-2013, donations have been split (53%/47%) between individual donors and nonprofit donors.  Since 2013, however, we have seen a steady decline in nonprofit donations and have had to rely more heavily on individual donations.  As a result, we are now faced with an overall decrease in funding that has contributed to a $14,900 negative cash flow to date in the fiscal year ending February 28, 2015.

The good news is, as a result of the board’s prudent fiscal management, we have sufficient reserves to cover this gap.  Our challenge now is to identify alternate funding sources to maintain a reserve, so we can continue to provide the same level of support well into the future.   Please prayerfully consider how you can help us in this effort.  We are open to your ideas, recommendations, referrals, and, of course, individual donations.  Below are just a few examples of how you can help:

  • Let us know if your faith community or civic groups have mission programs that might consider financially supporting Mission to Mexico on poverty alleviation.
  • Use your employer matching fund donation programs, if available, for Mission to Mexico donations.
  • Let us know if you are aware of any philanthropic organizations that consider grant requests for poverty alleviation outside of the US that Mission to Mexico can apply to for assistance.
  • Maximize your shopping dollars by buying your Amazon purchases through Amazon Smile and the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to Missionaries to Mexico when you select us as your eligible charity [Click here for link to AmazonSmile].

Please submit any and all recommendations to Rachel.fannin@mtmaustin.org.  We are committed to identifying the necessary funding in order to continue to support our brothers and sisters in the colonia and carry out our mission to feed the hungry.  Questions regarding our budget and cost to serve can be directed to the Board Treasurer, Pat Gavia at pat.gavia@mtmaustin.org

God Bless!

(*) The general operating budget does not support our sponsorship program, which is funded through donations specifically reserved for sponsored children.  We only sponsor the number of children for which we have received specific donations.
