February 2015

February...the month of LOVE.

One of our library kids reccommended a book to me,
Heartbeat by Sharon Creech.  It's a novel written in verse for children 8-12  (or for adults of any age!).

In one poem, the teacher asks the students to list what they fear and what they love.  Annie fears shootings, killings and dying...and "of disappearing / and not knowing / that you have disappeared. / or being left alone / with no one to love you."   But Annie loves running, drawing, and laughing.    She questions her lists after she reads other students.  Her fears and loves seem too big "but I am feeling stubborn / and so I do not erase them."

What do you love??  Or fear?  Thoughtful questions.....
