Western Australian Businesses Urged to Apply for new Industry Skills Fund

Senator Simon Birmingham, Assistant Minister for Education and Training has urged WA businesses to access support to upskill or retrain their employees to boost their business productivity and competitiveness by applying to the new $476 million Industry Skills Fund


Release of WA 2014 Sport and Recreation Remuneration and Benefits Report

The 2014 Sport and Recreation Remuneration and Benefits report has resulted in the collection, analysis and reporting of key data related to the demographics, levels of remuneration and range of benefits of the employees engaged in the sport and recreation industry in Western Australia and was undertaken by Apex Human Resources Consultancy for the Department of Sport and Recreation. Read the final report here.


Productivity Commission Reviews Workplace Relations Framework

The Australian Government has asked the Productivity Commission to undertake a public inquiry to examine the performance of the workplace relations framework and identify improvements to it. The newly released paper considers possible changes to the minimum wage, penalty rates, unfair dismissal laws and the role of unions in collective bargaining and has prompted diverse responses from unions and employer groups. VET Reform Forum Held in Perth

National Training Complaints Hotline - Now Open

A new National Training Complaints Hotline has been launched by the Assistant Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, to give students, apprentices and employers an avenue to lodge complaints and concerns about the vocational education and training system. AgriFood Skills Australia Training Package Updates

Development work to transition the RGR08 Racing Training Package into the National Skills Standards Council Standards for Training Packages is expected to commence in early 2015, in order to allow submission of the new RGR Racing Training Package to the endorsing body in June 2015. If you would like to be included on the consultation list for the review of RGR08, email your contact details to trainingpackages@agrifoodskills.net.au 


What's New On Workplace Essentials

Keep up to date with workforce planning and development news by visiting the What's New section on the Workplace Essentials website. One of the programs highlighted is the Restart Program.  The program is a wage subsidy that encourages workers 50 years of age or older to find suitable work and incentivises employers to take on mature-aged workers. 
 

Outdoor Recreation Discussion Paper - Released for Feedback

Service Skills Australia is reviewing the Outdoor Recreation qualifications and units of competency as part of the continuous improvement process for the SIS10 Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package. Service Skills Australia Release Updated Continuous Improvement Plan

Service Skills Australia has released Version 3 of their Continuous Improvement Plan 2014-15 (December) which outlines the planned training package activities including those for the sport and recreation; and hospitality and tourism industries.
