Uvalle, 18, is accused of holding four 20-somethings hostage while wearing a bullet-proof vest as 19-year-old Johnny Garcia fired shotgun shells at 22-year-olds Tabitha Freeman and Alvaro Carillo, brutally executing both on Sept. 1, 2013. Due to his role in the crime, Uvalle’s been charged as if he pulled the trigger.

Valentine's Day is Coming!

We lead our morning emails with news from around the Internet, grapevine items, and stuff that's too racy to print on the website. It's too intellectual for Facebook. It's exclusive to the LIVE! Daily Email.

Valentine’s is Feb. 14. Call the official San Angelo LIVE! Valentine’s Flowers Headquarters today to get your flowers for your sweetheart ordered! Go here. Or, Click to Call.

Shirley Floral - The Official Flowers for Valentine's Day

Oh me. The Senior Sage of San Angelo Politics called to scold me yesterday.

It went something like this:

Senior Sage: “I read your email yesterday and I’m wondering when Wendy Davis ever was in favor of Chinese abortions?”

Me: “Whaaaa?”

Senior Sage: “You wrote that Davis made a name for herself advocating for ‘Wonton’ abortions. Wonton is a Chinese soup.”

Me: [feeling deflated] “Oh. I meant ‘wanton’.”

A&M vs. Texas at lunch today. After the Senior Sage hung up, Bernay Sheffield called to ask if he could move the Texas A&M club’s meeting to a smaller room at Zentner’s. “I have a much larger lunchtime group that I need to make room for,” he said. “Of course,” I said. Then I peeked at the San Angelo LIVE! Events Calendar and learned that the larger group is the non-SEC school that sings those funny songs and wears orange and white. Upcoming events here.

Johnny Manziel checks into rehab. “The news that Johnny Manziel entered a treatment facility last week isn't surprising. Or it probably shouldn't be. The Cleveland Browns quarterback and former Texas A&M star has lived on the edge for a few years, and that has been well-chronicled.” More at Fox Sports.

Related at WaPo: “Browns’ dreams for Johnny Manziel, Josh Gordon have turned into uncertainty”. More here.

And so my day begins....

Gallup CEO: The Big Lie about 5.6% Unemployment. “If you, a family member or anyone is unemployed and has subsequently given up on finding a job -- if you are so hopelessly out of work that you've stopped looking over the past four weeks -- the Department of Labor doesn't count you as unemployed. That's right. While you are as unemployed as one can possibly be, and tragically may never find work again, you are not counted in the figure we see relentlessly in the news -- currently 5.6%. Right now, as many as 30 million Americans are either out of work or severely underemployed. Trust me, the vast majority of them aren't throwing parties to toast "falling" unemployment. There's another reason why the official rate is misleading: More at Gallup.

“Free Roaming Community Cat Caregivers" sounds like the politically correct term for "Cat Ladys".

When my husband and I first looked at buying a home, we had high standards. I wanted the best schools for my kids, we wanted an "upper class" house in a great neighborhood. I'll even go so far as to say we were eyeballing Bentwood as a location to settle in. Unfortunately, being a first time homebuyer, we didn't know about all the ins and outs of a mortgage or just how much we could afford. We were able to live in a section of the city that allowed my daughters to attend Lamar for a year, and we quickly found that we just didn't fit in with the profile of the population that attends Lamar. I'll say it! I'm not one of the snooty moms with the big, blonde hair that drives the Cadillac and has to shuttle my children to 15 different events. We didn't fit in.

What we did find was a charming house in College Hills, and perfect schools for our kids, among people just like us. We could relate to them... we were of the same income, the same upbringing, the same mindset, and it was comforting to be surrounding in people just like me.

I'm not saying low-income housing doesn't "deserve" to be built in Southwest. I AM saying that these people will be forced into an unhappier lifestyle because they're already low income, and they'll be surrounded in the snoots who look down on them. NOTHING is going to change that... Why do they deserve that? Why not find a more reasonable part of town where they'll fit in with people just like them? I'm not saying the north side... or God forbid "Grape Creek" even! Just somewhere so that they're not judged, or persecuted because they don't fit in.

I'm sure everyone has had that time in their life when they just want to shoot ole mom or dad): NOT!!! Drunk/high/possessed etc etc etc, this guy has some real issues that some shrink cant fix much less a pill of sorts. TDC will polish him up for when he gets out of jail he will be really prime for crime. Oops I rhymed(:

What? No article on today's "Heated City Council Meeting!"?
When will the Town Hall Meeting be regarding the, "They tried to keep it on the DownLow" Low Income Apartment Complex to be built on Valleyview?

And around here, a green light often means it HAD been green a few minutes ago. As for the witnesses who said both cars had the green light, that is not possible unless the traffic lights malfunctioned. It has happened, though. I sure hope they get it sorted out.

This below bothers me. Someone who is under any influence of any substance or has mental issues needs some type of help. If it be jail or in a mental institution. This is how all the bad things you see people do like Columbine, Denver's movie theater shooting, the shooting in Newtown, etc start. If someone needs help get them help! Don't make excuses for them or try to protect them.

"James Sadler, who was defending Hughes alongside Sweetwater's Trey Keith, said, “…his mom didn’t really want to prosecute this case…or thought he needed some help…” Hughes was reported to have psychological troubles at the time of the incident. His attorney noted that he was under the influence of alcohol when the shooting took place."

Although that's a good lick, that recovery is just the equivalent of a single grain of sand in a bucket full of sand as to what did make its way over here undetected..... The war on drugs holds about as much truth as when Obama opens his mouth and spits words out. There's way too much money going under the table to too many big shots in this country to ever do anything about the drug trade....

I updated the story and named the TCEQ "technician". He is actually the director of the TCEQ Air Permits Division. TCEQ is struggling with the same problems the City of San Angelo is with frac sand. Rules and ordinances were written before frac sand appeared on the scene.
