Dog Training 801

Fluency Continued: Better Behavior, Here’s How

In last month’s article, we introduced fluency. It’s what most people really need to teach their dog. It’s what people need when they say “My dog knows it, he just won’t do it.” If you work on fluency of each behavior that needs improvement, your dog will easily be able – and willing – to do what you’ve asked. This month, we’re digging in deep. This article will tell you exactly how to improve fluency.

Bigger & Better!
Levi's Turn-In

I knew the day would come. We got lucky with the snow last time, but it didn't stop this turn-in from happening.

So he's off to college at Service Dogs of Virginia

I expect he's feeling what a lot of college freshmen feel: excitement at the prospect of new friends, parties, learning new things, and lots of beer. Well, Levi won't get the beer at SDV, but he'll get everything else...and then some!

He has already found a comfortable lap in which to rest (yay! I was really hoping someone'd let him up in their lap, he so loves it!), he's reunited with Schooner, that gigantic, silly Great Dane we raised.

We're now service dog-less which is a really weird feeling. Business travel for Smart Dog U keeps me hopping 'til at least April, so we're going to have time to enjoy our aging canine family for at least a few months.

We'll see what the future holds for another puppy once spring gets here. Until then, rock on Levi -- you're off to do great things, and we're super proud of you, Vi!

ClickerExpo 2015

We're happy to report that Laurie's talk at ClickerExpo Portland 2015 was well received! She'll be speaking at both ClickerExpo's in 2015!

The next ClickerExpo will be held in Dearborn, MI in March.

Registration is open, reserve your spot today!

Laurie will be speaking about two different topics: service dog training with the clicker and an advanced training concept called "fluency."

She'll also be running two Learning Labs (where you can bring your dog to learn right alongside you!).

We'd love to see you at either Expo! It's a great learning experience whether you're a beginner or an advanced trainer. There's something for everyone!

On the fence? Watch this video to see if ClickerExpo is right for you!
