Our most recent additions to the
Board of Australia21

We are delighted to welcome two new Directors,
Mike Waller and Jason Maletic.

Mike Waller

WallerIn Mike's case we are actually welcoming him back to an active role in the organisation. He was an Australia21 Director from 2003-2011 and Emeritus Director from then until his recent reappointment. Mike's wide experience includes eleven years as a founding director of Heuris Partners (from 2001 to 2011). Prior to this Mike was Chief Economist at BHP Billiton where he led the development of the company’s greenhouse strategy. He also chaired the Business Council of Australia Greenhouse Committee. Before joining BHP Billiton, he was head of the microeconomic division of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet where he  was responsible for development of National Strategies on Ecologically Sustainable Development and Climate Change. His earlier career was with the UK Treasury working on fiscal, monetary and industry policy. More recently, in 2013, he was appointed the first permanent CEO of the Office of Living Victoria (OLV) established by the Victorian Government to deliver transformational urban water policy. Mike stepped down from that role in July 2014 and we are very pleased that we now have the opportunity to work with him again.

Jason Maletic

Jason's appointment late last year signalled our intention to bring in some younger Directors and to strengthen our business credentials in the private sector. Jason’s experience includes over 12 years in the professional services sector, with extensive experience in corporate finance, law, and debt advisory services. Jason is currently a Senior Advisor with Mills Oakley Lawyers in Melbourne specializing in merger & acquisition transactions and has formerly held senior positions at Macquarie Group and Westpac. In addition to his role with Australia 21, Jason also is the Deputy Chair of the Royal Children’s Hospital (Victoria) Bioethics Development Board and is a past Director of Brainlink Services Ltd. He has an honours degree in Political Science and a Masters degree in Applied Commerce, both from the University of Melbourne and is nearing completion of a Juris Doctor (Law) at Monash University. We are looking forward to drawing on Jason's expertise in the commercial world and his leadership experience with other NGOs.

All at Australia21 are looking forward to a long, productive and enjoyable working relationship with our newest members of the Board.
