Hi this is Jon from the REAPER Blog, and this is the first monthly newsletter for the site. You may have noticed that I’ve been putting out a lot more stuff up on the blog recently and getting more involved with the community. This newsletter is part of that effort to be more involved with other REAPER users.

Let’s recap all the stuff that’s happened in January 2015
  1. Video: 2015 Message to Subscribers and Announcements
I started off the year doing something kind of awkward and embarrassing, talking to the camera. Something I’m challenging myself to get better at. In the video I give a sincere thanks to all of the subscribers on Youtube and readers of the blog. I also announce a few things I have planned for this year.

  2. Video: ReaSynth and ReaSynDr Plugin demo + 10 free presets
The title says it all. I made a video tour of two of the virtual instruments that come with REAPER and give you 10 presets for ReaSynth that I came up with.

  3. Video: The Monitoring FX Chain
In this video I explain the Monitoring FX Chain feature and how I use it.

  4. Quick Tip: Phase Alignment Trick
In this video I show a really neat trick to getting guitar mics in perfect phase

  5. REAPER Blog Q&A #1
To mark the milestone of reaching 1000 YouTube subscribers I answered 5 questions from the community. This is an ongoing series with a new video going out every 200 subscribers.

  6. Quick Tip: Flying Edit
In this video I use a drag and drop technique to replace a single bad note in a performance. An awesome editing trick you should know.

  7. Emphasis and De-Emphasis EQ
Dan Worrall published a great tutorial on a pretty advanced EQ concept and I just had to share it with the community.

  8. Low cost control surface ideas for REAPER
Another video from the community. Martin demonstrates how he set up his highly functional controllers for working in REAPER.

  9. Video: Making a Song From One Note
In this video I show off a songwriting challenge, making a song from a single note on guitar and lots of editing.

So that’s what happened on the blog last month. Outside the blog there’s been a ton of other things too but just not enough time to share everything.

So far in February I’ve been chatting with a lot of folks that work in the video game industry and you can expect some more post-production and sound design tutorials this month.

Oh yeah, and REAPER Version 5 beta testing has started. Here are the big features so far:
  • Notation editor
  • VCA grouping
  • New theme
  • LUA scripting
  • Automation for item FX
  • Video filters
  • VST3 support
And many more little things of course.
There will should still be a few 4.XX updates before 5.0 is officially released.

This newsletter is probably twice as long as it should be, thank you for making it this far. Also, thanks for reading the blog, watching the videos, subscribing to the newsletter, subscribing on YouTube, following on Twitter, and thanks for the donation in the tip jar.

Comments, suggestions, ideas? Email me anytime.
