It's KAZU!

Kazu is Coming to Juneau!

Kazu Kibuishi is one of our favorite people in comics and we're very excited to announce that he'll be visiting Juneau this week for the Alaska Library Association Conference.

Kazu is probably best know for his work as the artist and writer of Amulet, a series of graphic novels that has occupied a lengthy perch on the New York Times bestseller list.

Kazu is also the editor of the Flight & Explorer comic anthologies which are beautiful and part of what lured me into the world of illustration and comics. I'd go so far as to say our gallery wouldn't exist if I'd never found Flight.

Kazu's debut novel, Daisy Kutter: The Last Train, is one of my favorite westerns.
Even Dad liked it and he's an old school John Wayne kinda guy. AND it has robots!

Oh. And I probably don't need to mention that Kazu also did the new covers for the Harry Potter series and that we have limited, signed and numbered prints of each cover at the gallery.

Jason Caffoe will be here too!

Jason Caffoe is the amazingly talented colorist for the Amulet series and also works as assistant editor on Flight and Explorer anthologies. Here's a great panel he from his story in Explorer: The Lost Islands...

MAKING OF A GRAPHIC ARTIST
Sunday, March 1 - 11:20am - 12:50pm
Centennial Hall
Sneak-In for Free!

This event is not officially open to the public but I've been informed that any locals who want to hear Kazu's presentation will be allowed to sneak in very quietly and politely to listen. If you need an idea of how quiet you should be, just remember, you are sneaking into a room full of librarians.

Goodbyes

If you know a middle school student, you might want to check and see if they're an Amulet fan or if they like the artwork on the new editions of Harry Potter.

I'm pretty in tune with my inner 7th grader and I think this week is going to be a pretty big deal for Juneau.
