    WEEK OF FEBRUARY 23TH - 28ST

Hello everyone!

5 Things You Need to Know This Week

1. Employment Dinner:
Are you a Clubhouse member that is working in the community? If so, please come to the Employment Dinner on February 24th from 4PM - 6PM at the North Central Clubhouse and enjoy a complimentary meal with us. If you are not employed and want to join the celebration and a great meal, the cost is $1.50. The Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus will be here again to help cook, serve and clean up! Last month they served fajitas, and this month it will be delicious shrimp couscous and delicious fish, so be sure to join us for the Employment Dinner.

2. TE Position with Taco Taco:
Taco Taco is our newest Transitional Employment partner. There is a part time server position open with Taco Taco. If you are interested, please contact Kyler in the Business Unit. Mark, a member at the Clubhouse recently started at Taco Taco as a part time dishwasher. His post on Facebook gained over 250 likes! Click on his picture to take look:

3. Capitol Day 2015 Recap
Last Thursday, members and staff from the San Antonio Clubhouse took part in the NAMI Texas Capitol Day to advocate for mental health. Executive Director Mark Stoeltje and member Linda Williams both testified before the Senate Finance Committee and spoke about the impact that clubhouses have. An advocacy workshop, rally on the Capitol steps, and office visits to our representatives were among the other highlights of the trip.

4. February Birthday Celebration:
Do you have a birthday in February? Come to the North Central Clubhouse on Friday, February 27th from 2 PM - 3 PM and enjoy some cake!

5. Visit to San Antonio Aquarium:

Did you know that San Antonio has an Aquarium that opened in December 2014, and already has many exhibits? The Clubhouse will be going to the Aquarium on February 28th. General admissions normally is $14.95 but the Clubhouse negotiated a reduced rate of $12.00. If you are interested in going please sign up in the Business Unit; a $3 deposit is required and the full amount due should be submitted the day prior (we need at least 4 participants in this event...maximum is 12).

Notes from the House Meeting

Topic 1: We’d like to do a rehearsal/run through of our employment presentation to the Mental Health Task Force.

Eli and Kyler did another run through of their presentation. Last week, the group commented on their slide show and mentioned that it distracted from their presentation. This week, Eli & Kyler incorporated the slide show into their presentation better. There were some grammatical errors on the slide show, but for the most part, the group liked the presentation better this week.

Topic 2: Discuss choosing units as home bases
-Jen, Linda, Ronnie

Clubhouse Standards #3: Members choose the way they utilize the Clubhouse, and the staff with whom they work. There are no agreements, contracts, schedules, or rules intended to enforce participation of members. Many large Clubhouses in other parts of the country feature home bases for members. Home bases means that a member is participating consistently in a particular Unit. Individual Units should provide opportunities to keep everyone engaged and do their own outreach for the members that belong to that unit.

Some in the group were worried that they would be locked into a unit they don't like. Others felt that the most active members work in the same unit everyday. Jen felt that members should commit to a unit for 60-90 days. Mark shared with the group that the largest, most structured Clubhouses follow that plan.
