Lesson 586: Love of God, Pt.1
The gap between a holy God and sinners is infinitely wide. But God’s love built a bridge across it, by placing His Son on a cross.
The greatest demonstration of God’s love was in sending Christ to die for our sins against God.
1 John 4:8-10 God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us
A godly person remembers that they were once the object of God’s wrath. But because of God’s love, Jesus reconciled them to God and removed their punishment (everlasting destruction) by paying the penalty Himself.
Eph.2:3-5 [you] were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved
The depth of our fear of God determines the depth of our gratitude for God’s love. But the opposite is also true: the more we appreciate God’s love, the deeper our reverence for Him.

- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
