Lesson 589: Training To Be Godly
Training to be godly involves individual responsibility and effort : train yourself. 1 Tim.4:7
Only God can enable us to grow. If we sit back and wait for the Lord, we will not grow.
2 Pet.1:3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness
The verb in this verse is past tense; God already gave us everything we need to pursue godliness.
Like an Olympic athlete, we must be committed to the daily training God has assigned.
Heb.12:14 Strive for… the holiness without which no one will see the Lord
2 Pet.1:5-6 Make every effort to supplement your faith with… godliness
Phil.3:12 I press on to take hold of [the goal] for which Christ Jesus took hold of me
Jer.29:13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
