Hi everyone,
There is an air quality seminar next week at Federation Square that our Brooklyn and Yarraville community may be interested to attend.
https://envirojustice.org.au/air-pollution-SLF-event
Join Professor Tim Flannery from the Climate Council for this panel discussion on the problem and impacts of air pollution in Australia. Air pollution kills more than 3000 Australians a year. People in communities all over Australia are exposed on a daily basis to unsafe air pollution from coal, diesel transport, smelters and other industries. Hear about the problem from experts and learn what it’s like to live in a community badly affected by air pollution.
Ron Ipsen from Latrobe Valley community group Voices of the Valley will talk about what it was like to live through the Hazelwood mine fire and their concerns about deaths in their community from pollution from the fire.
Martin Wurt from the Maribyrnong Truck Action Group will talk about what its like to live along one of the busiest diesel truck routes in Australia (Yarraville) and what the people of the west are doing about it.
Nicola Rivers, lawyer with Environmental Justice Australia will talk about why our laws are failing us on air pollution. And Professor Flannery will talk about the health impacts of coal on Australians.
