The Episcopal Church of the Atonement

Lent Begins!

We are in a new church season. Lent comes from an old English word that means lengthen - it refers to the lengthening days of springtime. That's a nice thought as we look out on those dirty snowmounds, isn't it?

In the church, we mark the season of Lent by taking intentional time for prayer, study, and giving.  There will be opportunities - some new, and some tried and true - each week, as we journey through Lent toward Easter.  Join us along the way!

PRAYER SHAWL KNITTERS
THIS SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 10 AM

Prayer Shawl Knitters meet every third Saturday at 10 am for a couple of hours of knitting and conversation.  We have materials to get you started on a prayer shawl of warm winter hat.  Join us in the St. Margaret's Guild Room.
CHANGE THE BABIES
The Mampong Babies Home in Ghana cares for infants whose mothers have died in childbirth.  The babies are protected until they can be restored to their families, usually around age five.  Your pocket change can help fill a hungry tummy. Pick up a mite box at church, or deposit your money in the cans in the Narthex.

The Episcopal Church of the Atonement relies on your support to maintain our mission and ministry.  Parishioners are asked to make a yearly pledge to help us maintain our presence in downtown Westfield, to pay the salaries of our priest, music director, administrator, and sexton, and to facilitate all of the pastoral care, outreach, and worship activities that make this place a spiritual home.  Use the button below to make a pledge by email.  Or pick up a pledge card the next time you come to church.

Sunday's Lessons

The Price of A Child is our Lenten study book this year.  It's a fictionalized account of the true story of an escaped slave in the years just prior to the Civil War.

The book is available for purchase in the Narthex, or on Amazon.com.  It is also available for your e-reader.

Discussion of the book and the continuing struggle for Civil Rights will be held at Adult Formation time on Sunday mornings.

A Thank You Note From the Turgeon Family

How does a person say a thank you for so many things in one letter? I have been struggling with what to say and how to say it. Then it occurred to me, stop trying to cover everything; that is an impossible feat! I will say a heartfelt thank you for the generous financial gifts that so many of you have donated! Such generosity!  Connor really appreciated the heartfelt cards, sent to all three hospitals as well as to our home. I personally have found the gifts of prayers to be much more beneficial and supportive. Let me tell you a quick tale; we found out that Connor was in the accident, the hospital said “he is in serious condition but he will survive” and we thought of course he will. Then they said “we believe that we can save his leg”, and we said that of course they will. Then he went to the specialists, and they said “we feel that we might be able to save his foot”, and we thought of course you can. And then several days after surgery Connor asked if he was ever going to walk again, and we said of course you will! This is a true testimony of faith and love, and the belief that GOD is in charge. We always felt your faith and an abundance of love from all of you. That can never be repaid, nor will it be forgotten. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

 With Love and prayers,
 Jean and Marcel Turgeon
