SWA Board approves use of supplemental waste at REF 2...

At their regular meeting on Feb. 11, the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County Governing Board voted in favor of bringing supplemental waste fuel to the SWA’s Renewable Energy Facility 2 while there is excess capacity. The projected net revenue from the import of this supplemental waste fuel is estimated at approximately $18 million over 5 years. Also during this meeting, the SWA Governing Board held their annual election of Officers. These elected Officers include:

  • Chair, Commissioner Mary Lou Berger, District 5
  • Vice Chair, Commissioner Hal R. Valeche, District 1
  • Secretary, Commissioner Melissa McKinlay, District 6

Join us on Saturday, April 11 for a FREE public event with more than 60 vendors (expected), a 5K Trail Run (registration fee), a FREE shred event, and a FREE hazardous waste drop off. Kids will not want to miss the SWA touch-a-truck and .Kids Corner. There will also be a Recycled Fashions Showcase featuring student designers and models. 

If you want to be an Exhibitor or Sponsor, go to the Soiree website. All proceeds will benefit Resource Depot and Rebuilding Together of the Palm Beaches.

Are you going to run in the inaugural Run AWAY 5K Trail Run...

Test your fitness during the Run AWAY 5K Trail Run on Saturday, April 11 on the SWA’s Greenway Trail System, 7501 N. Jog Road in West Palm Beach. This 3.1 mile course on the e-Loop trail will take runners AWAY through cabbage palms, cypress hammocks, marshes and lush pine flat woods, with glimpses of Grassy Waters Preserve and the Renewable Energy Park. 
The Run AWAY 5K Trail Run starts at 8 a.m. All participants will receive a medal and a shirt. Awards will be given to the best times for male and female runners in various age categories. A prize will be given for best race costume made from recycled or reused materials!
 
Proceeds from this family-friendly 5K Trail Run will benefit Resource Depot and their efforts to keep reusable resources out of the landfill and in the hands of those who need them in the community.

  • Pre-registration thru February 28, 2015: $25
  • March 1 thru April 4, 2015: $35
  • There will be a 300 racer limit
  • No registration available day of race
  • T-shirts are guaranteed to everyone who registers by March 1

We will be promoting one home hazard a month and spotlighting the Southwest County Transfer Station. Find out where you should properly dispose of your home hazards.

Coming in June...

On Saturday June 27, we will be hosting the grand opening of our new $600M waste-to-energy facility, at the new state-of-the-art LEED platinum education center. These pictures are a sneak peek into what is happening. We are excited for our entire tour experience to improve in ways we didn’t have possible before. If you were impressed with your tour in the past, just wait until you come out on your next one after our grand opening.

Finance Director
$86,944.00 - $126,068.80, depending on skills/experience.
This is a professional management position responsible for management in several areas: Accounting, Budget, Investment/trust, and weigh station functions. Will oversee all financial audits, budget planning, financial assets, debt management, compliance, billing/collection fees and all payroll administrations.

Environmental Program Coordinator
$50,899.01 - $60,442.58, depending on skills/experience.
Responsible for programs to monitor compliance with appropriate Local, State and Federal regulations for resource recovery and solid waste management facilities. Typical duties include conducting transfer station and facility audits; managing storage tank and greenhouse gas monitoring, and managing Title V Air compliance programs.
 
Accountant III
$48,245.51 - $57,291.54, depending on skills/experience. 
This is a technical accounting position covering specific phases of the account maintenance and post transaction auditing for the SWA’s Special Assessment program. Primary function involves directing activities required to ensure file correction cycle is completed accurate and timely manner for certified assessment rolls.
 
Payroll Specialist (Finance Department)
$34,985.60 - $41,548.00, depending on skills/experience.
This is an accounting position preparing, maintaining and verifying payroll records for all SWA employees. This position will also assist in the preparing of quarterly and yearly payroll tax returns.
 
Programmer Analyst
$56,659.20 - $82,149.60, depending on skills/experience.
This position will work closely with development and other support groups to provide solutions to meet needs of all parties. Participate in design, coding and perform unit testing for assigned projects. Identify and rework any structural defects found in programming code to reduce future maintenance costs.
