OST a Priority for the City of Pittsburgh

(Post Gazette) On February 10, the Office of Mayor Bill Peduto released the Pittsburgh Education Task Force Report. The report identifies five categories of focus and 18 recommendations for increasing cooperation between the City of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh. Of the five categories, one is out-of-school time.

Eleanor Chute of the Post Gazette wrote that one of the recommendations under the category for out-of-school time is to have "the city and school district collaborate with Allegheny Partners for Out-of-School Time to coordinate existing opportunities and a strategy for expansion." Next steps include implementing the task force’s recommendations with the help of staff in the Mayor’s Office along with continued oversight from task force members.

Create Your Own Case Toolkit

The Create Your Own Case Toolkit is a practitioner-driven and professional development resource designed to help those who work with families (like teachers, librarians, afterschool staff, and camp counselors) reflect on experiences with families and recreate stories as cases. These conversations will enable practitioners to better serve children and families. The Create Your Own Case Toolkit is designed to be used creatively and flexibly. You might bring families, practitioners, and community members together to reflect on and share perspectives about the cases in the collection.

They Need To Hear From You!

USDA published the proposed rules for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) which aims to improve meal patterns and nutrition standards for afterschool, child care, Head Start, and adult care programs. USDA has asked for feedback on specific issues in the rule by April 15. It is critical that the changes on these rules continue to support the program's role in meeting the nutritional needs of low-income youth, while taking into account operational considerations of program providers. Please email Robert Campbell at rcampbell@feedingamerica.org with feedback on the rule.
